My buddy who's way more into prog/djent than I am proclaimed this his probable metal album of the year today, and that it's well worth the 10 year wait. I'll probably dive into this when I get some time this afternoon hopefully to see if I have feelings close to his assertion.

 

A lot of our staff hate it so I imagine it will be one of those divisive albums.

 

Yeah. The praise I'm seeing across the prog/djent spheres appears to be near universal, but that also tells me that it's probably a fan service type album where if you really enjoy the genre, then you're going to love it. If you're not as engrained in the genre, then it might not be for you.

Either way, I'm stoked to see what the hype is about if I can pull myself away from Phrenelith, The Silver, and the new Dream Unending single.

 

I was wondering where Phrenelith went after getting so much hype on Shreddit with that previous album

 

All the dudes in the band have been busy with other stuff - the drummer's (Tuna) also in Hyperdontia who put out like 4 releases in 2020 and one of the guitarists is also in Undergang. Between that and the vinyl production delays, I'm not surprised it took this long for it to get out.

This is probably my most anticipated record for the rest of 2021. The single is so damn good.

Whitechapel going straight radio rock and it's fucking GOOD. Phil has some absolute monster pipes.

 

I think the red flag for me is that it’s 80 minutes long.

 

80 minutes is definitely an undertaking no matter what the album is. Like I adore Bell Witch’s Mirror Reaper but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t find it to be a chore to listen to it sometimes.

 

I simply don’t have that kind of attention span anymore lol

 

Weed is absolutely essential to sit through long ass albums imo

80 mins of djent or prog is very different than 80 mins of doom or stoner. I can handle the latter I guess because I expect it, when prog stuff gets to slow I fall asleep

 

Did I ever post this in here because if I haven't that's a problem because this has lodged itself in the deepest recesses of my mind and refuses to leave and you must all join me in this fate

 

Jimmy does a good of remaining neutral throughout his review. I think the general consensus is it’s just way too long and starts to blend together rather quickly.

Wow, ANOTHER opinion on something that doesn't matter at the end of the day...

 

Yeah he speaks on all stuff we here already know, so it's more geared towards those who either hate or are confused by the band getting the tour. Wonder though how many of the BMTH/ADTR kids will actually dig their music/performance
