$50 a year is $4.17 a month. Y’all are fucking crazy, it’s a steal if it was just OOT alone.

I don't see how $50 just for OOT would be a steal; that's almost how much it cost to begin with twenty-something years ago. OOT is a great game, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the value of a product should diminish over time. Maybe that's fucked up, I dunno.

I'm going to admit my value of games in general may be a little warped. Besides the fact that I'm consistently broke and thus look for any deals I can possibly get, I also get the majority of games from Steam sales or Humble Bundles. I have rarely paid full price for any game that I own.

I also have been using emulators for years, and so I can play OOT or any classic game whenever I want, for free. I'm not trying to say Nintendo needs to compete with illegal activity, because that's bonkers, but from my perspective, it does mean I am looking for a little incentive beyond "doing the right thing".

I do feel that I would be more comfortable with the $50 if I thought there was a benefit beyond the online service and the emulator access. Like some kind of discount program or something comparable to what Sony and Microsoft do. Maybe that's warped thinking too, I dunno.

All I know is I have to look for value with every dollar I spend, and I can't square in my mind the value here. I'll admit that's partially my fault, maybe all my fault, but here we are.

I'm confused.. $50 a year comes out to $4.17 per month, and I'm currently paying $3.99 a month for my online services, so that seems pretty darn good. Or is it an additional $50 on top of what I've already been paying?

It’s 4 bucks a month or 20 bucks a year if you pick the yearly subscription

I think most people are comparing the $50 to the $20 you pay if you pay for a year at a time, because if you pay month to month, then you end up paying twice as much over time as you would if you just paid $20 up front.

God damn, of course Nintendo is already sold out of the N64 controller. That sucks.

  9. Hop on eBay and you’ll noticed that a pre-owned OOT is around 30-50 dollars itself haha

Instead of discussing whether it's valid or not to base something's worth on how much it goes for on Ebay, I'll instead relay that once, when I was in college, a friend and I found someone selling an air guitar on eBay, that people were bidding over.

In all fairness, it was a pretty nice looking air guitar.

On the wii virtual console you could buy any of those games for like $10 and you OWNED IT

I had Ocarina and Mask on the 3DS and I think I was able to get like $30 for them from Gamestop a year ago lol

My big hang up other than the price is Nintendo pushing Genesis games instead of GB/GBC/GBA games, like come on.

I also got that Genesis collection with 30 or so games already so it’s kinda of a waste to double dip on that.

Sounds like good ole Nintendo doing their typical limited inventory bullshit again.

Yeah, definitely not surprised, but I was hoping to sneak in quick. Didn't expect it to come out of nowhere in the middle of my work day lol.

I'm glad we got Genesis games over GB games as most GB games don't hold up at all.

But I still think the pricing plan is very odd. I think they'll add more content like DLC for Luigi's Mansion or something like they did with Animal Crossing.

There’s some that are worth a play, like Link’s Awakening and the OG Pokémon games for example. Like if it was a mixture of all three original 2D GBs, that would be worth paying for along with the N64 games. Also not to be a contrarian but the N64 suffers from that same problem too imo.

I forgot they didn’t put Donkey Kong 64 on the initial N64 list, now that’s some bullshit.

$50 a month is almost on par with what Sony and Microsoft charge. And Nintendo's service is nowhere near as good quality-wise as theirs. Plus you get free games every month from Sony that aren't 20+ years old. Plus you get discounts and double discounts during sales.

If all Nintendo is offering is Animal Crossing DLC, N64 games, and Genesis games, that isn't worth the price when compared to their competitors.

Now, if we were also getting, say, free access to all the Smash Ultimate DLC characters, or some other free DLC for Nintendo games like Fire Emblem or Breath of the Wild or Hyrule Warriors, or even free Switch games from a few years ago, then it might be worth it. But as it stands, it's not worth it.

I don't disagree with the N64 take. I think OoT and Majora's Mask hold up fairly well, but a lot of others are hit and miss. Paper Mario is still good, as is Pokemon Snap, but mostly because they're very simple in design. I think the biggest problem lies with shooters or 3D action/platformers.

A buddy of mine said it best about Goldeneye: If you had all those fun memories playing that game in the past, just remember them fondly and don’t bother trying to play it now because you’re never gonna look at that game the same if you do.
