Have you guys ever seen the original 1999 Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm special? I'm watching it right now for the first time and it's not at ALL what I expected, I thought it would be a standup set but it's basically the pilot for the show, although I'm only halfway through. It even already has Jeff Garlin and Cheryl Hines in it

It's on HBO Max along with the normal show

Okay yeah I finished it and this is 100% just the pilot of the show, no spoilers but there's maybe like a minute total of standup in it. The premise is Larry doesn't know what to do to follow up Seinfeld (this aired a year after the finale) and he's trying to put together a standup special. Pretty much sets the stage for the first season and introduces the characters. Really highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it

I’ve seen it awhile ago and it’s great, though the show definitely improves upon it.

 

The pilot is the source of a joke in the second season, when Larry David backed out of a deal because he said a relative was sick. It ends up torpedoing one of the Seinfeld stars' deals later on.

 

That traffic line really feels profound.
