Picked up Monkey Ball and Im having fun but I guess I dont really understand the point of it? The story mode is pretty straightforward with all of its missions and what not, but for all of the challenge mode stuff, is there any benefit to picking up bananas/ trying to go fast.

In a handful of levels, the only incentive to engaging with the levels design is to collect bananas but I dont know why I would do that rather than just go for the goal.

I've barely played any Monkey Ball games, so I had to look this up, but it looks like bananas in the games are typically solely for points and extra lives. Sounds like a holdover from the olden days, when that's what games were all about. I mean, the coins in Super Mario Bros. served no other purpose.

It is, but like with Metroid games, I never play a Castlevania game without a map. After a time, wandering aimlessly loses its charm.

Creating the map as you go is part of the fun of Metroidvanias. As much as I love Metroid Fusion, it does feel extremely directed when you play it. The more freeform nature of Super Metroid is still the best approach. Seems like they got back to that style with Dread based on the reviews.

I love wandering aimlessly. Which is why I am very excited to get high and jump into Dread tonight.

A good Castlevania or Metroid involves me getting lost for an hour or two until I finally figure out what I'm supposed to do lol. I'm not the best at them but I never enjoyed anything more tbh. I always finish them at least.

I think Metroid Dread will become one of the very few games I regularly replay. It‘s so fucking sublime.

My Switch OLED was defective right out of the box, so...that was dope :redanger:

I guess I'm lucky that it's the first time such a thing has ever happened to me

Unfortunately not, we're still under strict Covid restrictions here so stores aren't actually open to process returns, so I literally had to lodge a refund request online and go and buy another Switch from another store

Oh no, that’s really awful. It’s probably going to take quite awhile for them as well, so lame.
