All I can do is delete, and that’d get rid of a ton of proof/references. Mod has to lock

    Edit:
To be clear I don’t care either way, haha. I’m just gonna refrain from posting in here going forward (…unless tagged) and use it as a resource

I don't go into the music forum much and don't follow a lot of bands individual threads so I do appreciate this thread in that sense. I don't follow really any other music sites and have a limited social media presence so I do appreciate the info I get here.

And I find the discussion about artists not getting paid for their work v enlightening. Merch design contests were always something I thought was cool to make fans feel more involved and never thought of the cons until the Paramore incident was brought up in here. I do think bands should be briefed on what's going on behind the scenes. as the artist with more exposure and "privilege" in that sense, it feels like it's your duty to keep a pulse on the business side at least, but if that's not possible then at least rectify it when it is brought to your attention, like the band above seems to be doing.

And on whether ppl should reach out privately before going public, idk I don't blame people for going public quickly. She went public and it seemed to work far better than her private attempts did.

Edit: Sorry I deleted a chunk of my post because it didn't feel relevant to this discussion and was drawing parallels to bigger artists that is probably a whole different kind of machine. Sry if anyone was in process of responding to that but I realized it was kinda silly to include

But who were her private attempts to? The band themselves? Or just the band's manager?

If you were in the bands situation, and she blasted you publicly after never even trying to reach out to you directly, would you want to work with her again in the future? And if you were on the outside looking in, would you hire someone willing to publicly call you out before trying to work things out with you directly? I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that it's understandable to go public in certain situations, such as when the artist is too big to contact directly.

Tbh if I was a band in that situation I'd be so embarrassed by my own management team for pulling that nonsense and reflecting poorly on my band that I wouldn't even be focusing on her like that. And if I was a band and it was a priority for me for fellow artists to be treated well and compensated fairly I'd like to think I'd appreciate her bringing light to the issue :shrug2:

Yeah I'd be upset at my management team if I were them. I'd also be upset if I was publicly called out for something I had no knowledge of it. I just personally believe in internally handling situations before letting the world know about it. Respect me enough to come to me directly if possible rather than making our issue public.

It's like if you and I had an issue, I can just send you a PM. Instead I go on this board and just bash you letting everyone know about our issue when we could've easily resolved the situation privately. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate that.

Eh I'd also be upset it was something I had no knowledge of, but again I don't know that I'd direct it at the artist. I'd be upset at management and possibly myself for not knowing how the people I trust to handle my issues weren't doing a commendable job.

I think making it about themselves and how they feel wouldn't serve anyone and wouldn't be productive. Especially because this isn't an isolated incident in the music industry. We hear more about how the musicians themselves are exploited but not enough about the more behind the scenes artists. If what she's doing can bring more awareness about that and encourage other artists to come forward, and maybe even more bands to be aware and mindful about what their teams are doing, those are only good things. The band can choose to make it about their feelings if they want, but I think that would be misguided. It's not personal.

Tbh the only one who should be worried about her ability to get work in the future is her, and it seems like she's doing just fine.

Yeah I get your side of view as well.

Another thing I really have an issue with is not paying for your work beforehand. I know most designers will ask for a deposit or wait until they submit the work to you before you pay them, but I'd personally just pay you in full as soon as you begin the work so there's no potential issue. If I don't like the work, that's one thing, but most of the time revisions are possible.

Hope this type of discussion is allowed here, as this is something I never really thought too much of until the past few years and I'm not sure if this subject is relevant to this thread.

Does who a band/artist support politically matter to you? I'd say before 2016 I never really payed attention to stuff like this, but I feel like the way things have unfolded that it's become hard to ignore. Does someone supporting certain politicians count as accountability? I'll listen to music if it's good regardless of who someone supports, but I will limit how much I support them in terms of actually buying things like merch.

I think about this a lot. For myself, I usually find it difficult to engage with an artist if I know they're an out and out right-winger. Off the top of my head I'm struggling to think of any that I know of that I still listen to - I still listen to the occasional SOAD song but that feels a little weird now knowing their drummer is a Trump guy. I guess the hypothetical line in the sand for me is whether they're using their platform to promote right-wing beliefs or whether it's just a personal behind the scenes thing, but again, I don't think I've ever had to test that line because I'm not really aware that I listen to any right wing musicians.

I just don't understand how it isn't standard practice these days to not at least do a simple google search, at the barest of minimums, to make sure you aren't signing on to a tour with a scumbag. At least for bands/artists who claim to care about safe spaces and accountability.

condimentcutie's tweets are literally the second thing that pops up when you google "Tiny Moving Parts allegations".

this is my first time actually reading the tmp allegations, i dont really listen to them at all and all this came out when i was off the site and dealing with a whole lot of other shit (which left me without access to the internet for extended periods of time) so excuse me if i sound ignorant but why are they still getting booked to play shows? did they respond to the allegations at all? was their response to the approval of the victim or are they just trucking forward despite the victim's wishes? i just heard of it happening and never paid it much mind since i dont listen to them, but now im really confused after reading the account that they're even like...still around?

edit: wow theres way more to this than i thought my bad still reading

yeah i just read more on what happened with him trying to get a mediator and then releasing his own statement and then vague statements of holding himself and others accountable and proceeds going to organizations and charities but at no point did he or anyone in his camp reach out to this victim and try to gauge where they were at with all of it and their thoughts and doubly how fucked up it was for those organizations to go out on tour with tmp and post pictures with them and hold up dylan without recognizing the immense harm he had caused and failed to really reckon with in any meaningful capacity. just a real fucked up situation all around that im legitimately horrified to be reading about
