You could also look at this festival and wonder why bands are playing alongside bands they claim to be against…

 

Three thoughts on this:

1) Of the bands on this poster, who has been explicitly antifascist? I look at this and see a mix of bands that are probably willing to turn a blind eye to the sketchy nature of some of the bands on the lineup for a payday and bands that are explicitly NSBM. Dismember and Deicide are in the former, with Graveland being in the latter.

2) Steelfest has been sketchy for years. They've always been kowtowing that line without explicitly booking bands like Stormfurher and Grand Belial's Key. That said, Graveland is one of the further reaches they’ve had into that world afaik.

3) They got some balls for booking Inquisition in a headline spot after the child porn debacle a few years ago. Wow.

 

The “apolitical” bands that come to mind are Dark Funeral, Moonsorrow, Deicide, Havukruunu and Melechesh to name a few.

It is baffling something like this still exists and is allowed to exist.

They're not. Just saying they have no problem being on the same festival as a band like Graveland because $$$. And I say this as a huge Dismember fan.

Yes! It’s rare to get chills multiple times throughout the same song, but every change in C&W gets me. Such a fantastic epic.

 

I would say 50% of that lineup is either straight out nazis or at best pro-fascism

it seems to me that the Europe & especially Scandinavian “scenes” don’t seem to care (other than Germany where it’s illegal & still it continues to happen deep in the underground)

not to rain on everyone's parade, bc I thought the Hooded Menace record was great too, but...

 

Personally, I didn't care for the Hooded Menace album; just didn't click for me, and now based on the above I don't mind

 

The crowd at that fest is going to have a lot of bald heads, I'll say that much.
