I will say all of these more low-key pop albums lately have me more excited for Halsey's album. I really hope her working with Trent is a nice kick in the teeth.

I don’t really think Sling is bad but it’s not really memorable and I’ve had no desire to come back to it outside of Amoeba

I loved the first Clairo record and I also love the new one idk good music is good music to me.

in any case, I understand why ppl would find her or Billie boring but I am also p confident a lot of their reasoning would be basically the same reasons I love them. not everything is for everyone but some of y’all do really act like y’all are the arbiters of good taste lol. it is what it is and I enjoy the site despite it but it kinda can be stifling for genuine free flowing conversation. just something I have noticed and has been part of why I have distanced myself from the site (at least in bursts) for the last few months now. you can do whatever you want with that feedback, no hard feelings either way genuinely.

I love both the Billie and Clairo records for very similar reasons despite feeling like they’re v different albums from a sonic and songwriting and production point of view. I feel like those albums shine in their subtleties and intricacies. the, honestly at their core p drastic, shifts some of the songs will take over the course of them that might totally go over your head the first few listens, or if you aren’t listening closely. I also think both albums have very important things to say. they’re both records written by two young and very talented women in popular music and they’re very vulnerable and open about how difficult that can be. both have lyrics that really hit me or caused me to have pause. idk not everything is going to be for everyone but I genuinely think they’re both very strong sophomore efforts from budding songwriters, and I am to a point in my life where I am p confident and trust my tastes in music. I’ve been a musician and songwriter for I think over half my life now and am currently really studying production bc I plan to self-record my music indefinitely, so I don’t feel like I am talking out of my ass lol

I only sort of listened once but nothing grabbed me. A few points almost got interesting. But not really fair to judge it yet with how little I’ve listened. However… I think Big Star is so beautiful. I love that chorus so much

Stoned is the best song on the album.

  22. Oceanic Feeling is up there with Supercut as one of her best songs.

I think this album is remarkable and the fact that she can put this out within the same five-year span as Melodrama one again cements her as one of those one-in-a-generation artists for me. The pop music machine moves so fast these days that the narrative around this one was that we waited so long for it, but we really didn’t in the grand scheme of things, and I find it amazing how quickly she’s grown from Pure Heroine to this record.

  24. Solar Power is evidence Jack Antonoff shouldn't be pop's go-to producer

Some of the coverage of this album makes me feel insane! Jack did co-write and produce Melodrama, right? The amount of "Lorde had a really good thing going with Melodrama, but then Jack Antonoff joined the fray and fucked everything up" I'm seeing is truly absurd to me, especially in so many major publications. This writer even manages to make the same assessment with Chemtrails Over The Country Club.
