we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

This is from the Sixthman Sessions right? If so, yeah I have the live performance downloaded (audio and video). 3 tracks. Black Honey, Death From Above, and Hurricane.

Is their tour technically Live Nation?

Damn, they just confirmed on the Spin Twitch stream that

there will be a follow up album sooner then expected for Horizons/West [/spolier]

    !!!!!!

This is a damn fine cup of coffee.

I'm really excited about today's confirmation. I love both singles so far, which is rare for me. But I really wish that Spin interview on Twitch asked more specific questions about the new album. The interviewer often asked these broad questions about their sound, and if you've ever watched a Thrice interview, you know that leads to a lot of shrugs and I don't knows.

I’m glad they didn’t just let people speculate and the implications of getting more sooner is better

Nice to get confirmation this early, missed the interview because of work, diving into it now.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Late to the party with the Thrice takes, but after looking at the track list for Illusion of Safety, Deadbolt might be one of the worst tracks on that album tbh. Kill Me Quickly, A Subtle Dagger, Trust, The Red Death, The Beltsville Crucible, So Strange I Remember You, and To Awake and Avenge The Dead are all better songs IMO.

Back on topic for the new album: I'm way more hyped for this than I was for Palms after the couple singles, but I'm probably on par with where I was at for To Be Everywhere...

I'm relatively new to that album but Deadbolt is probably the highlight on there so far. Definitely significantly better than a number of those for me.

I thought it was interesting how Dustin basically admitted that the "EP of A-Sides" approach (Deeper Wells) didn't work. So they're just making another album with all their extra material from this recording session.

This might be the first time a double album has actually happened as expected.
I apologize to anyone I shot down. Fully back into concept / double album conspiracies

There's another interesting moment where Teppei and Dustin seemed to butt heads over the album sequencing and single release order. Dustin said they put Color in the Sky first at the last minute and that Scavengers was the first track for a long while. Dustin then explained that Color in the Sky sets the tone for the rest of the record like Kid A's opening tracks. But then Teppei seemed to argue that releasing Scavengers as a single first undermined the sequencing. Maybe others have a different read on that exchange.

didn’t listen to the interview yet, but as this reads, are they just putting out “extra” songs as /west or is it a separate intentional release with its own sound/tone? This will bug me. Is it a double concept album or one album and one companion album of extra songs?

They did this sort of thing with Alchemy Index and there are great songs on both releases. I’ll be making sure to take the time to enjoy each album. Happy we can expect more than just 10 songs though between the 2 releases.

I was wondering if Thrice would do an alt versions EP/album between Palms and their next record. Knowing they have worked on two albums is awesome. An alt album can wait.

They basically wrote a double album's worth of material for Horizons/East. So instead of releasing a double album all at once, they've decided to release the other half (Horizons/West) later.

Yeah. I feel like the idea came up (maybe originated with fans) and seemed like a band consideration. Yeah, I think it would be selected songs from the discography they could take a new approach on. I’m glad they went for lots of new material instead, but I could see that idea being circled in on in the future when the time is right to bridge a gap between albums. They can do a lot of styles in the Thrice umbrella so for now all attention is on the new music on the horizon.
