Their merch has never been good unfortunately.

 

They don’t have a bad album so I won’t say Get Hurt is their “worst album” but it is my least favorite album of theirs

 

I’m a fan of the items I have

 

I understand why people would have Get Hurt low on their list, but it’s my second favorite.

 

Get Hurt is my favorite of theirs, one of my favorite albums of all time, and I can’t believe this show tonight is happening.

 

59 Sound turns 13 years old today. Will never forget stumbling onto that album through the Last.fm recommendations station

 

Their masterpiece.

 

All this recent discussion has remaindered me, I probably need to revisit Get Hurt. Thought it was a decent album but a clunker comparatively at the time, but let's see how time has altered it for me...

 

My favorite with American Slang as well

 

i don’t love the post american slang stuff like some of you seem to but 59 sound holds up remarkably well. fantastic album. when we get around to 2008 in the ____ Year in Music threads it’s almost certainly going to win

 

Yeah, I can’t think of anything else that titanic from 2008. I know Lydia was big then, but I think they’ve dropped off pretty monumentally for a lot of people

 

Handwritten rules

 

I came onboard following the release of American Slang. That will always be my favorite from them. Handwritten follows. Then 59 sound. FANTASTIC trio right there though.

 

The only other real contender I can personally think of for 2008 is Folie A Deux. But I'd pick 59 Sound over that.

 

Get Hurt is the only one that doesn't fully work for me. I'm overdue for a revisit.

Obviously 59' Sound was huge for me. Sink or Swim is pretty great too! Let's not forget about that one.

I said this at the 10-year, but it really felt like it came to be the album from that year that had the most ardent following. There weren't a ton of big 10-year album anniversaries in 2018, and even some of the bigger or more beloved albums from 2008 (Viva la Vida, maybe, or Fleet Foxes) seemed like they got less celebration at 10-year time than The '59 Sound.

 

Yeah I was just scrolling through my iPhone library and it's like every single artist I was a fan of at the time took 2008 off entirely. They all released records in 2006/2007 and then followed them up in 2009/2010. The 59 Sound and Folie A Deux were like the two biggest records for me that year.

Handwritten has the “summer I graduated high school and all my friends blasting this that entire summer together” memories associated with it, but I still put it #2 behind the 59’ Sound.

 

Yeah I have a lot of great memories tied to Handwritten. One of the best was when I went on a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2012 with one of my college classes, sitting on the back patio of the house with friends listening to Handwritten, drinking beers, and just vibing on one of the days we were there. Good times.
