Fandango has showtimes listed but tickets are not for sale. I’m expecting a Friday drop. They may wait until the premiere on Monday.

I have a feeling word of mouth is going to be one of the major contributing factors towards ticket sales. Disney is probably leaning on that with the premiere being this early.

It won’t be. Word is that tickets go on sale Monday. Fandango also has showtimes listed.

Just because they sell tickets doesn’t mean it won’t still get pushed back. Anything can happen in 3 weeks.

Feige confirmed that Wenwu is not the Mandarin from the comics and was created for the film. It’s interesting that he also states he really wouldn’t call him a villain and that Leung’s Wenwu is the heart and soul of the film. “This is a story of love between a father and a son, but misunderstanding and conflict.”

So hold up. What I'm gleaning from this poster is that there are two dragons?

  21. That sounds kind of odd. I’m no Shang-Chi expert but I was pretty sure his father is a bad, bad, bad dude.

In the original comics his dad is Fu Manchu, which is a very stereotypical “China evil and wants to take out the west” type of figure. Shang-Chi still had a lot of inner turmoil and shifted between love and hatred for his father. Moench’s run really covers it well.

Years went on and Marvel realized how terrible Fu Manchu was (as well as losing the rights to the character) and Shang-Chi’s dad was retconned to be Zheng Zu, a slightly more compassionate villain who actually loved his son.

You also have the entire Mandarin stuff which just adds another layer of confusion, which makes it pretty clear why Marvel wanted to create a new character that borrows traits from Shang-Chi’s multiple “fathers” in the comics.

So long as the film actually is actually about Wenwu’s love for Shang-Chi and Shang-Chi’s inner turmoil, I think were in for a treat when it comes family drama. To me, Shang-Chi comics have always been one of the more interesting family dramas within the Marvel universe, so I’m glad Feige’s comments seem to represent it that way.

A nice little snippet of the fight choreography.

  24. Thanks for that. I think I read a Secret Avengers comic that had Shang-Chi’s father and they hyped him up a but if I recall correctly.

I really appreciate the added context.

Wow. So uh, someone showed up at the premiere that no one was expecting and it's out there for the world to see on the Shang Chi twitter but I don't know if this means anything, don't know if it's a spoiler for people, and really I just plain don't know what to do with this information, and I'm afraid if I say anything else I'll find out this is just a glitch in the simulation.
