Glad I'm not alone in seeing comparisons to The Ring from The Empty Man haha

I do not fw horror like the Conjuring movies/Sinister/Insidious and found The Empty Man to be much more in line with the methodical, rising-sense-of-dread movies that are more my speed. Honestly to me it reminded me most of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure (1997), it's not the masterpiece that Cure is tho.

i'm also a big James Badge Dale head which helped

Cronenberg on the cast got me stoked

I think so. I generally enjoyed all three seasons. The reveals all became a bit predictable. Hopefully this one isn't obnoxiously set up.

I tried season 1 a few years ago, but gave up early on. May have to give it another shot.

Will definitely do the new season of Slasher. We've watched the previous ones and they're typically a good time even if kinda corny and cringey at times.

Got halfway thru The Empty Man based on the discussion in here. Lukewarm on it so far but hope to finish it this weekend. I hate stopping movies unfinished but I was feeling its length and started nodding off. The Ring vibes are absolutely undeniable to me so far both in style and pacing.

  9. Just a thought, aside from some small character differences between Sadako and Samara, was Ringu really that much better than The Ring? It was the first horror film I saw in theaters, maybe I was just young at the time and didn't have much experience with the genre, but I really did find it absolutely terrifying.

That being said, the Empty Man comparisons make me less interested?

The Ring wrecked me the first time I saw it. At the time I remember the two "definitive" scary movies that kids in my school were talking about were The Ring and Darkness Falls. I remember finding the latter of the two far less spooky though.

Haha Darkness Falls. I need to revisit that, I'm sure it's pretty bad. I remember after a group of us saw that I would always call or text my friend "Stay in the light" and she would immediately flip out and not be able to sleep.

Darkness Falls is pretty bad, but the first 10 minutes or so is fantastic.

Just finished Jaws: The Revenge and actually liked it quite a bit, definitely better than 3D.

Surprised the "Let a Gargoyle Sit on Your Face" shirt in 3D wasn't mentioned in the Gourley and Rust episode. Does everyone just already know about that? It my first time seeing and I had to pause it. Is it some inside joke or something?

I love The Ritual, but this one looks a bit like one of those psychological horrors that are a dime a dozen. Maybe there's more to it though?

I liked it! Everything I read about it says it was his hitchcockian film and that is quite evident. I mean, the premise itself is similar to Rear Window. It got a little too wonky at the end for me but overall I could appreciate it. I think this is also only the second film I've seen with Margot Kidder in it (the other being Black Christmas).

I didn't really like it either but I haven't been a huge fan of anything I've seen by De Palma tbh
