Secret does very little for me.

I did re-listen to all the songs in Dolby Atmos. The atmos mix on Stop Making this Hurt is far superior to the stereo version IMO.

I like this.

 

This kinda washed over me on first listen. Chinatown and HDYWM are two of my favorite songs of the year and really like the other two singles too, but the rest just kinda fell flat (outside the penultimate track, that ones really special). I think I like the songs, but I think I’m used to a more cinematic quality from Jack and this felt kinda disjointed.

No comments on the production, I’ve just got one AirPod in at work so I don’t think I can really judge, but it seemed fine to me.

 

the volume levels on this album are bizarre, "91" sounds nearly perfect production-wise and regular volume, but by the time you get to "How Dare You Want More," you need to turn up the volume a lot, it's just not even

 

Yeah, I am really sad to say that I am bummed about this album after one listen.

After one spin, this kind of feels like an album meant to be listened to on vinyl drinking tea with a candle lit. I don't hate it, but it feels pretty different from the way Jack's talked about the album and production. Hoping they set some of these songs free with the live show (but also I really want to hear everything from Gone Now because I missed that whole cycle).

 

My first listen was more positive, but it’s definitely not as good or as fleshed out as I would’ve thought considering the wait (and based on how good Chinatown, 45, and Stop Making This Hurt are. Don’t Go Dark sticks out as a sore spot on here - it’s not bad, but it just feels like a massive retread. I’m sure people will hate Big Life but I think that ones kind of fun even though it goes nowhere.

And yeah, the volume levels are weird.

the new version of Strange Behavior is... fine? but mostly because the base song itself is really great. Overall I like the idea of taking Steel Train songs and re-doing them, but not entirely sure it fits all that well here. I really like the opening track, 91
