I didn’t say anything about your opinion, your post didn’t even contain what you thought of the sound of the recordings (or if it didn’t I missed it because I really don’t care). You just said it was a conscious decision made by jack to have the record sound a certain way. I just pointed out that while that is obviously the case, it can still be criticized.

Reminds me of the whole COPE debate. I guess we’ll see

COPE, The Blackest Beautiful, Upside Down Flowers, the second Nightmare Of You album... Just some examples of almond with great songs overshadowed by production choices I hate

there’s hundreds and hundreds of albums that have sparked production debate even since COPE was released, because as that user correctly pointed out it is ultimately a subjective debate, and sometimes it’s hard to really explain why it works for some bands and why it doesn’t for others. I can’t always explain why a skramz or black metal album from the early 00’s with shit production recorded on an 8 track in someone’s basement in New Jersey sounds golden to me and an album recorded in a multi million dollar studio with a slightly more “raw” take on an otherwise polished band’s sound is unbearable to my ears, but I guess context and how the production serves the songs matters, and in some cases bands that rely more on their production throughout their career (this absolutely applies to bleachers given Jack’s day job outside of his band) are up for more scrutiny in that regard than a scrappy up and coming band with a 5k recording budget tops trying to put together a debut album. It’s just interesting how drastically different production values are measured for different bands and as someone that has gone to school for this and still has a vested interest in the ins and outs of recording, mixing, and mastering it’s something I heavily consider when assessing whether I like or dislike music. But like I said, a 90s screamo album recorded with two SM57’s for the entire room can sound great to me while a band with an unlimited recording budget can put out something completely unlistenable to my ears.

Speaking of COPE….Personally, I love it and it’s raw production lol. My favorite MO album.

COPE’s production isn’t raw at all imo the guitars are VERY processed, the drums are just mixed really far back

Could not possibly be more exhausted of all the endless conversations around “bad” production on this site lol

Idk production is a pretty important aspect of music, I think it’s fair game to discuss on a music forum.

thought my post which was not dramatic whatsoever explained pretty well why it’s important to me but in case you missed it I literally went to school for it and got a degree in audio production and have done freelance work in the field and create my own music, it is probably the most important aspect of music when I’m judging whether or not I love something new I’m hearing, but again it seems to be a problem with people on the forum that it matters to me so I’ll go ahead and just fuck off

as someone who has very little understanding of production, but is interested in why certain albums sound “bad” or “great” to my ears, I find production discussion pretty fascinating!

Yeah, I'm gearing up for something great. The first half of this year felt a little weak overall with the releases, but I've been impressed with the second half so far.
