I have listened to this album a ton this year.

I think Blink still makes great pop punk or whatever you want to call it. I do think hearing Hot Mulligan’s last record record and ep makes me say that it’s what 2020/2021 pop is with their big catchy sound.

I wouldn’t have thought of Dirty Nil as pop punk, but the hooks and catchiness of this record are so there. They just threw in some much more stuff on there like punk and metal rock moments it’s kind of something more. Like seeing this record recommended. They sound like “The Hammer”

I’m still surprised how well that MGK album did commercially.

I thought "Forget Me Too" would be a bigger radio hit, but that ended up being "My Ex's Best Friend."

It’s more that I’m surprised the market for Machine Gun Kelly was that big. I knew him as a punchline who had never particularly made waves aside from the one sided Eminem feud. His music was never interesting and his personality even less so.

  8. I would love to see that upcoming Willow album match it. (I think this JXDN album is going to do well.) But like, if I could pick something that would just really, really, really grab the moment ... that WILLOW album would be really cool.

I think this is exactly WHY he switched to a pop-punk record

And I guess I’m surprised it worked!

I mean, MGK was never the biggest rapper in the world or anything, but let’s not pretend like every record he’s put out didn’t debut in the top 10, and a few of them top 5 lol

I don't understand where Travis finds the time to do everything and be everywhere

One thing that I actually think might contribute to things sounding more 'same-y' (I don't agree or like this argument, by the way) also might be that Travis Barker is playing drums on almost ALL of them, and he has one of the most easily identifiable styles of playing that I've ever heard.

Really stoked for the Willow album!

Also the Yungblud album ruled, and was a great push in a different direction.

“Don’t know if this is new knowledge or not, but Mark made some comments on his cancer on today’s twitch stream. Someone asked something along the lines of “was it caught early” and he said he wasn’t sure. Said by the time he went in, they found out it had spread “through his body” but don’t know the extent. Also the main tumor was the size of a lime when they found it. I’m sure he knows what “stage” it is technically is but he didn’t say.”

I’m trying to remain as hopeful as possible with Mark’s diagnosis, but this hurt my heart to read.

I've actually enjoyed all of these recent Travis albums (to varying extents), didn't know Mod Sun had one too, worth checking out?

And yeah KennyHoopla is the future. Even before he started making pop-punk with Travis he was making really interesting indie rock/new wave sounding stuff

I don’t think Travis had much, if anything, to do with the Mod Sun record, did he? I’m fairly certain that was all Feldy. I don’t believe Travis is credited as a writer anywhere on that one.

Yeah and I think he has been working on Avril's new record as well, which was supposed to come out this summer I thought. Apparently is supposed to have more of a pop punk sound!

I don’t think I’ll listen to this stuff much but IMO the pop punk stuff coming out nowadays is more interesting than like most of the scene’s bands circa 2007 onwards.
