It's different for everyone and their experiences...being a queer kid in high school and hearing Tyler's early lyrics everywhere made me feel shame and unsafe due to the violence towards LGBT in the lyrics. Being at a festival (Glastonbury) and hearing the crowd around shouting back these disgusting lyrics made me physically ill and triggered.

I'll call it growth when instead of issuing a BS apology, address your fan base and make them understand why you wrote those lyrics and why they're completely not acceptable.

I was referring to his Team Breezy twitter stans, as I mentioned. Sorry for wanting to call out domestic abuse and the artists who still support that trashbag.

    Thank you.
Maybe we should listen to how homophobic lyrics affected LGBT youth and not defend the artist who was 19 and should have known better.

  5. Not my place to tell anyone how to feel about Tyler -- having that reaction, especially when it was happening, is completely valid -- I just personally value a public figure showing growth as opposed to making a notes app statement that may or may not mean anything. It's the kind of thing we talk about in here all the time. It would be a net positive for him to make a statement addressing his fanbase regarding his past lyrics, sure. Given the context of the past 5+ years, I just don't know what he could say that the vast majority of his current fanbase doesn't already understand. Just thinking out loud, not trying to offend.

Told myself I wasn’t gonna post in these threads anymore, but here we are. The short version is that this is incredibly nuanced and complex and I have no clue where I stand on it.
Tyler is rough for me. I cannot imagine the immense pain he was in before he was open about his sexuality and I especially cannot imagine what someone in that scenario goes through as a black man. I think if you’re presenting yourself as straight, using those words publicly is a no go. And then on top of that, Tyler had some extremely disgusting comments when Sara Quin wrote an essay about his VMA nominations. I looked into it recently and unless I missed something (which honestly, I’m hoping I did) there’s been no apology made for those comments. For me, those are comments that don’t get excused by Tyler’s sexuality. Tyler’s clearly not going anywhere and I hope his music continues to help young black queer kids but I do think there was quite a bit of damage done early on in his career that I don’t think many queer people will be able to forgive and I don’t think they/we should be expected to. Again, I cannot imagine the way he was feeling in those early days and I certainly empathize with what he was going through. I’ve talked to a lot of queer people over the years about Tyler specifically and there doesn’t seem to be a general consensus in the community about him. So I think the main thing is that you’re not entitled to forgiveness for shitty things you did while you were in pain and queer people shouldn’t be expected to forgive someone for damage they caused to the community regardless of past or future actions and context. Everyone’s going to make their own decision on where they stand I can only hope that, again, since it’s clear he’s not going anywhere, he can inspire the younger generation and help build a more inclusive industry

I remember reading the T&S article and his remarks and feeling absolutely disgusted. He left a poor taste in my mouth as a queer person for that reason and I can’t listen to him without thinking back to those words said.

Yeah it’s something I don’t think that I personally will be able to get past. That’s just one of those things I’ve heard too many times and at too young an age to not be hyper sensitive to as an adult

That’s not as bad as the headline seems, they denied an old procedural request from November unrelated to her recent comments and new filings.

these sites try to make any little meaningless thing huge so try to read these articles in full, Britney is not done yet.

  15. Thanks for this analysis, truly. I did read the entire article and it doesn't really clearly state that this isn't the end of the line - you'd have to have at least some legal context/knowledge of how this stuff works to get that from how it's worded, imo.
