  1. Robert Hunter & John Perry Barlowe, the Dead's lyricists, are amazing at this imo. They paint vivid pictures with vague words. It's not really nonsense but it is very vague. Sometimes I do feel like they get bogged down by the type of lines that heads quote all the time, the ones that are like trying to sound super meaningful. "Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hands," "once in a while you get shown the light/in the strangest of places if you look at it right" are a little bit....much for me at times, but in the same song "The wind in the willow's playing tea for two/the sky was yellow and the sun was blue" fits in this discussion really well I think.

yeah there is a very clear difference between like the actual nonsense that comes out of anthony kiedis' mouth vs what beringer or vernon try to evoke with their lyrics. that doesnt mean its always successful but theres definitely a difference

I went in skeptical because stans were saying it was as good as Blackout and I mean... she's not gonna have another Blackout. I enjoy it and have listened to it a bunch of times already but it's not an iconic addition to her discography or anything. It's better than Britney Jean but so are most things lol

I'm late but my favorite lyric related discussion has to be "300 like the Romans" and some of the crazy ass theories people had.

I don't like Yeezus very much besides New Slaves and Black Skinhead. Blood on the Leaves is cool too

I mean of course not literally every fan! Every big Brit fan I talked to irl and on forums is very pleased. I do like it a lot tho. I don't think it's disappointing. I didn't care for her two albums before Glory so this is the first one I've liked in a while.

I'm not sure if this is unpopular so much as something I think gets written off too much on this site. So. Rant ahead.

I whine about choreography all the time on here. I think it's a super unappreciated art, especially on this site which is a shame because people talk about music with such passion and care but often write off other art forms like they're nothing. Just like people talk about how production or instruments or other musical things I'm unknowledgable about can add something extra to the song like build on the tension or emotion, choreography does the same thing visually. I don't think all popstars or artists need to dance or have choreography and actually I wish less would because they suck at it lol, but my enthusiasm comes from that visual way to push the song further and add so much more depth than just the music alone could do. So when people are like "popstars? Who cares if they're good at choreo or live performing." I just want to smack them upside the head because we'd never be like "They absolutely suck at their musical craft? Oh well! I don't care!!" and it just hits a nerve lol. I think dancing/choreo can add that depth whether it be to build on that emotion or even just add more fun and spirit to a song. So when these popstars are slogging their way through a poor routine I get annoyed and then even more annoyed when nobody cares!!! I guess it's like, you don't have to do it but if you're gonna do it then do it right. I guess you can say when you listen to the music it's not like you can hear the choreo lol, but I like to choreo things in my head how I think the emotion or message resonates visually which I think is just as worthy as doing the same with music and deserves the same respect. I guess you could also say they're singers not dancers so who cares, but I think with popstar that line of being a performer gets more blurred and it's something that imo does matter!

Anyway, some fave choreo examples of it propelling the song!

I know!! When the chair traps her underneath I die it's my fave part. I love when props are used well because sometimes it becomes a distracting hindrance. That's my fave part of the Mya vid, how she uses the sand as a prop. Lots of videos that take place with sand they have a platform they dance on so they never actually interact with it, but the way shes uses the sand in the routine is really interesting!

I can't believe I gave examples of choreo and didn't include Bailando omg. One of the best videos released in the last few years. I'm a flop.

I agree that choreography elevates my opinion of pop stars and their stuff because just because you can sing isn't enough anymore. You have to be able to bring something else to the song otherwise it's justgoing to be forgotten. Okay, so Adele might be an exception but I don't really consider her a pop star.

ia. Adele has presence too tho and arguably the songs. Someone can have a great voice but if they don't have stage presence or the songs to go with it they're just boring. It's partly why imo the Voice TV show isn't a great premise. Sure they can sing but the contestants are boring af half the time and can't command a stage.
