I think it's coming this year, I just think it will come after Kevin Devine. Kevin Devine seems to be an October release, so that still leaves November and December for Brand New.

 

To think of how many times I joked about new Brand New coming in 2016... But not until the very end of the year! Hahahaha... *sigh*

 

I'd almost be willing to bet it will come out December 31st. haha (Unless Brand New wants to do the normal thing and release the 30th so it's a Friday)

 

Brightside: Brand New isn't Glassjaw or the Wrens in terms of release frequency...yet

 

Neither of those is as big as BN. Think of the insanity BN inspires: just how many threads and theories about every little detail. The kids that sent their blood. They're also on a standard release cycle while BN hasn't put out an album in the better part of a decade now. Their album will overshadow most everything and they know it. I'd like to think KDev could ride the BN hype wave so to speak, get some extra sales and publicity but I'm just not convinced he wouldn't be swept away.

Like was said above, it'll most likely be November/December

 

Optimistically, September.

Realistically, November.

Pessimistically, 2017.

TBS and Yellowcard are two of the biggest bands in alternative music of the last 16 years. Pretty sure those are two major releases with overlapping fanbases that are being launched two weeks apart by their label (which was the original criteria we were operating on).

And as for KD getting swept away, well, Brand New themselves must disagree with you because they confirmed a 2016 release date for their album knowing full well that KD was also going to be releasing one this year (they own the label, right?). If they knew their album would overshadow most everything (and, of course, it would but that's not the point) then why actually say it was coming for the first time in 7 years? Why not just keep not saying anything until next year?

 

I am guessing a fall 2019 release. Everyone will love the album but the supporting tour will be just Daisy front to back (10th anniversary and all) with an encore of 5 random covers for funsies.

They've got pretty fun covers of Web In Front and El Scorcho floating around, the novelty would be cool. Plus a Modest Mouse cover, c'mon you had a pretty good idea, this could be cool. But Daisy front to back with an encore of deep cuts like Out of Range of Nobody Moves would be cool

 

I just honestly have very little interest in cover songs from full time bands. There are exceptions, as like anything else. But live? Ugh, hard pass. I came to see that band play their songs.

Edit: I know this is a very in the minority opinion. I can't turn off how I feel. Haha

 

I get that, that's fair enough. Covers I know are cool, but if I don't know it and don't know it's a cover it takes me out of the experience a little bit, so I understand where you're coming from. This is just a total Elseworlds scenario where they play exactly what I want them to haha

 

I bet Wish by NIN would be one of those covers on that tour lol

 

Have you listened to Dustin Kensrue's live cover album? Might change your mind, it's fantastic.

 

Nope, no interest. Even if I did listen and like it, it would be the exception. It wouldn't change my entire view. You know?

 

And yet they still aren't as big as Brand New. It's not 2004 anymore, both of those bands don't draw like they did in their heyday. Not to mention both of them are on an indie label with resources help with promotion, recording costs etc etc. Procrastinate is a label the band started to release Brand New & their friends music. Not 100% sure what their situation is (Zach helps out but it's not his only job...he still manages other bands) but I doubt its anywhere near the scale of a label like Hopeless.

As for your last point: things change. Maybe the band held on to Kevin thinking they'd be able to put out BN LP5 sooner but weren't happy with some aspect of the album process and it's taking longer than they thought. I don't know what's going on. All I'm saying is I know Jesse wants Kevin to succeed and putting out one of the most anticipated albums so close to his might hinder that. Or it might be a "rising tide raises all ships" situation. We'll have to wait and see

KD song is good.

 

As much as I would've rather this had been the premiere of a new Brand New song, this is a pretty killer track. Never really listened to KD but that might be changing with this album.
