The one time I saw Green Day, they played over 2.5 hours and it was dope. I also was at this The Cure show that was over 4 hours long and it was an amazing experience

I love Foo Fighters, they're one of my top 5 bands, but I really need them to limit their amount of covers in a set to 3 max. When I saw them do Breakdown they literally made it go on for 8 minutes. With the amount of time they dedicate to covers they do they could probably fit in another 3-6 originals if they cut them out entirely.

I have the paper set list and it’s different then what they actually played. they went off script and added a bunch of covers and cut some new songs from the set. I think they had almost every song off of concrete and gold on the set list

Okay. The Cure for four hours does sound incredible.

I guess if there's no opener and it's a band with a really deep catalog, then maybe. But it can be overkill at some point.

Trying to hold out and get last minute tix on stubhub/etc for the OKC show... I saw pit for $270 and honestly thought about it, but my wife would likely kill me. The Colour and the Shape was the first non-kids CD I ever bought (just Disney stuff previously), and I've always wanted to see them live.

I might consider if I could get pit for less than 150 but I don't really wanna spend more than that. I'd have to drive up from Dallas anyways.

There was some talk here about the free Limp Bizkit show near Chicago at 7.15. Did anyone ever go to that festival before? How far from the stage are you without a VIP pass? Thanks

Yeah... that's quite a drive from Dallas. I'd just be coming from Lawton, making it a bit easier to bite if I can find a decent pit ticket.

Not sure what is the popular stance towards them here but in any case, Emo Nite will announce some dates for all around the country on Tuesday with tickets going on sale for the public on Friday (Patreon supporters get access to presale).

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

I've actually never been to an Emo Nite before, but I feel like it'd be fun if I went with a group of friends.

I’ve been curious to hit up an Emo Nite sometime. I’ve had friends that have gone and had a blast

I went a few times in Chicago and to me it felt like the people there were mostly there because it was cool to be "sad". The playlist was mainly FOB/PATD/MCR so don't expect anything groundbreaking though the last time I was there they played Walls by Emery and I went crazy while everyone looked at me funny... Once they play a song that's a bit out of the mainstream emo people just look lost.

I went to the first Emo Nite they had in San Diego, their guest host was Jordan from NFG, first thing he said: Gonna play some great emo songs for all of you, here's one from your hometown. Everybody was like "yeah, Blink 182!" and he played Drive Like Jehu, I went all crazy as a big Jehu fan and everybody was confused and not happy.

He also played At The Drive-In, Thrice, The Get Up Kids, Rocket From The Crypt, the reception was very bad to his set but I loved every second of it.

Emo Nites need to play more Sunny Day, Mineral, American Football, The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, Cap'n Jazz, Rainer Maria, Braid, Fugazi, etc.(and newer emo too) and less MCR/FOB/P!ATD.

  15. cricketandclover

    Things have changed.

Yes, some of these guys have no clue what to play. Justin and Josh from Motion City Soundtrack did one and played, like, Cursive between Jack's Mannequin and My Chem.

They just name them Emo Nite due to the Emo fashion, not the music, once they were playing Drake and other mainstream hip-hop in the middle of like FOB and All American Rejects

You can just play the music at home with your friends and your own alcohol and save the money on the ticket/transportation haha. That's why emo nite disninterests me, along with the music they play (some of the stuff they play you can hear at a club for free)

I used to go because I went with a group of like 10 friends and it was fun but every time is just the same setlist, almost in the same order. And I was going for free as well, it got boring really quick, even fro free.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

That’s amazing. I would’ve been ALL OVER that

I remember looking at the playlist for that and was baffled. It’s like they made a playlist of their personal taste, and then Emo Nite was like “no fam, you need some of this too” and made them add the generic stuff

Emo Nite is a fun experience and I've certainly spent more money on far less enjoyable things. I'd recommend going at least once if you've never been.

Emo Nite is fun if you set your expectations low and just enjoy what it is

I remember I went to one where the gueat DJ was the guitarist from a popunk band in Chicago (can't remember their name for some reason). He played Valencia and Silverstein and people were just standing around doing nothing and I could see the regular dj standing on the side if the stage fuming, he was probably too scared to say something.

Like seriously, how can someone go there and not know Smile In Your Sleep? All the years that people were bullied for being emo and now it's suddenly cool? Fuck that. People were on me for having glasses in second grade and now people wear them as "accessories"...

Edit: it was Jake from Sleep On It

The Emo Nite I went to had Shane Told and Craig Owens at the Crofoot. Craig played some acoustic Chiodos… I loved every second of it.
