So I've never been a huge Deafheaven fan, I've tried a few times in the past to listen to their stuff and it kind of came off as perfectly fine to me, but I've wanted to get into them so I always try to check out new stuff from them and this song is really really cool. Would super dig if the whole album goes in vaguely this direction.

I'd be very happy if that horrific shrieking was a thing of the past

imagine coming into a metal band's thread and complaining about metal vocals lol

Honestly I’d be fine incorporating the clean vocals over the pretty black metal stuff, but just becoming a Nothing cover band is disappointing.

It doesn't really sound like nothing. Other than them both being influenced by shoegaze.

I haven't really ever considered the band "metal" per se. Metal adjacent? Absolutely. His vocals have definitely been a source of contention, so I see the argument.

Nothing is incredible and everyone should have tuned in to watch their Two Minutes to Late Night set covering Integrity.

I like Nothing. I'm just saying this song sounds nearly identical to most of those kind of shoegaze bands until maybe the last minute. I think it would've been more interesting to bring more of their old sound with them to this

  14. this is still very much a Deafheaven record - the prettier luscious moments of the last three releases are just emphasized and prioritized over blast beats and riffs

black brick is about as metal as anything gets lol, what on earth

  17. My favorite part of this band since Sunbather has been Kerry's guitar work (and Shiv's since New Bermuda, don't think he played on anything recorded before that) and Dan's ludicrous drumming. I'm happy with whatever direction they take the band in. Love George's screechy growly blackish metalish vocals, still do, always will. But his "clean" voice sounds pretty great too and at this point I'd be shocked if I don't love this new direction.

I love Deafheaven for their dynamics. Obviously, the heavier elements made huge swings in dynamics throughout a song and even a whole album. Is this still the case with IG?

Going to blast OCHL on my drive home this evening because I need to abate my excitement for this record however I can.

all other noise aside deafheaven is/was objectively a metal band. I know you listen to enough metal to know that.
