    Ohhhh, yup....I like this.

I've liked every release until the last song they released. Didn't care for that one much. This should be a cool summer album for me though. It's definitely not your typical AFI, but I'm a sucker for New Wave Post-Punk stuff.

I listened to this album while folding the laundry the other day and enjoyed it. I understand that may not be what the band was going for but can confirm it's an excellent soundtrack for dudes in their late 30's folding laundry.

Going through the back catalogue in full for the first time in a couple years leading up to the new one. Was hoping that Sing the Sorrow would hold up and it fucking does. What an incredible album, probably one of my top ten albums of all time

Some dope songs on this but I feel Davey has phoned in a lot of the writing.

I was digging Far Too Near sonically but vocally it was pretty boring

starting this now. I listened to those first two songs when they came out and was not impressed, so we'll see.
Yeah 100%. Sing the Sorrow holds up.

EDIT: I'm on the 4th song and I'm so bored, especially if Dulceria is the best this thing has to offer.

Been trying to listen to this a few more times and it just drags. Totally uninspired for the most part. It would have made a strong 6 song EP. Far Too Near, Dulceria, Escape from LA, Begging For Trouble, Looking Tragic, and No Eyes.

I think musically they've just been lacking on the last few albums. It all sounds fine, but its just forgettable. Nothing is sticking out on this one either, unfortunately.

"Hidden Knives" off their last album is a banger.

"White Offerings" is the closest they've come to recapturing the Sing the Sorrow magic.

"Dulceria" is still probably the best song on here, but "No Eyes" deserves some praise for actually bringing a different kind of energy to the album. Not coincidentally, these songs both feature Davey's best vocals.

As for the other new songs: "Death of the Party" is like an idea for a song, not an actual song. "On Your Back" is okay - it would have been one of the better songs on Crash Love, which it reminds me of. "Back from the Flesh" - I need to listen a few more times, but for now, it's interesting.

    Song ranking, favorite to least:
    Dulceria
    No Eyes
    Begging for Trouble
    Far Too Near
    On Your Back
    Back from the Flesh
    Twisted Tongues
    Tied to a Tree
    Looking Tragic
    Escape from Los Angeles
    Death of the Party

Not a huge fan of the album as a whole, but not bad in terms of legacy acts. If you compare this record with albums by their peers, it's at least taking some risks and trying new things. A lot of it just doesn't work though.

I'm actually really enjoying this, at least a lot more than I thought I would.

    Drumming on this is excellent.

I like this album on first listen. It's no Sing the Sorrow but it doesn't need to be.

  18. So this is ok, there are some catchy melodies. But overall it just drags on and I don’t see myself going back to it.

Every song starts out great instrumentally but ends up droning on and on once the vocals kick in. The vibe of the album is interesting and the bass is really great on almost every song, but it somehow all ends up running together for me. That said “No Eyes” is a standout for me because it actually feels like it has some life to it.

This feels like it could have possibly been a Blaqk Audio album or like the Dreamcar project Davey did with the members of No Doubt. Very passive and new wave-sounding which is totally fine and, as I said, probably a good target for their aging audience these days.

Wrapping up my first run through and it’s definitely better than I was expecting based on the singles, they sound better in context, especially since this was probably the least excited I’ve ever been for an AFI record. Was expecting an even stronger Dreamcar vibe but I like that it’s more reigned in than I expected.

Every time I think this band is done they put out an album that is just good enough to keep me in it. Wasn't a fan of much of the singles but they are all pretty good in context. Dulceria is still the clear highlight imo

Yeah, two listens this morning and it’s pretty solid front to back. I don’t care for the two slow songs, Back From The Flesh and Tied to a Tree.

On Your Back, Death of a Party, and No Eyes were worth the wait, so that’s cool.

Nothing super ground breaking or surprising from these guys, but it’s another enjoyable AFI release.

No Eyes is the best of the 4 unreleased songs and might be my favorite overall. This is a fine late-career album. I dig the sound they're going for but I don't see it being an AFI album I return to often when I'm in the mood for the band.
