nothing leaves a worse taste in my mouth than weaponizing identities, whether it’s your own or someone else’s, to place yourself above criticism

Uhhh wow. Does the Proper guy realize that’s the survivor? What a weird way to address them if he knows they are the survivor.

 

I know the point is not to make it about me, but this incident has taught me a lot about not putting faith in bands that seem to be very “woke” and “progressive”. Proper. were the absolute last band I ever thought would’ve pulled this bullshit, yet here we are. Just disappointing all around.

 

The commitment they’re making to being an absolute fucking asshole about this is wild. Truly bizarre behavior.

 

This isn't the first time they've been like this with regards to accountability in particular.

it makes me so bummed how condimentcutie is just ignored. nothing has happened to TFB. people are supporting TMP. Don’t know who most of these bands on Twitter are but how hard is it to not tour with a rapist.

 

I like, want to believe Erik thinks they're doing the right thing, bc I know people who have taken tours with bad people because they think the situation will be better/safer with them there. That said, everything they’ve said makes me feel like they’re being hollow, don’t believe a word they’re saying, and would ABSOLUTELY be talking shit about this tour if they weren’t on it

I also understand their “black joy” statement to mean “why are you yelling at me and not at TMP/Belmont/Capstan” but it’s very clearly because people expect better of them because of how they position themself

 

I was crawling through the thread to try and determine what "doing the right thing" is. Is the justification that it's a big step for poc artists/musicians?

 

That’s certainly the justification they’re putting forward. The broad justification for taking this kind of tour (which they are not trying to make but I’ve heard many times in other situations) is that by being a good person on this tour you can keep the bad people in check, as opposed to the tour being filled with yes men who don’t care. If Erik made that justification, I would at least respectfully disagree. They are not making it and instead corncobbing themselves with hollow sentiments about restorative justice when there’s no indication whatsoever that any type of justice is actually happening

Also what’s up with the calling out Paramore and Fueled by Ramen? What did they do and why are either being dragged into this?

 

If they are still going off about how they think they are right then it seems like the conversation yesterday between Proper and the survivor was unproductive which is a huge bummer.

 

Love how "reintegration" means "getting your platform and music career back with zero consequences and continuing to be a touring musician" to so many people.

He can "reintegrate" by getting a fucking desk job. The whole point of accountability is that he's lost his "famous musician" privileges forever.
