yeah because cancel culture doesn’t fucking mean anything and the majority, including people in this thread, would rather shit just get swept under the rug. like we discuss on a weekly basis lol

  2. agreed, however cancel culture is weaponised by often powerful men to silence oppressed people - journalists lose their jobs for supporting Palestinian voices, Muslim people are silenced and chased out of countries like Australia for daring to question regressive policy choices. Cancel culture doesn’t exist for abusers. Cancel culture does exist if you are a minority and if you stand against the status quo, your career and life will be destroyed. It’s completely backwards and so fucked

Oddly enough, I went from this page just now to twitter and saw Katt Williams trending for this take on cancel culture...

I hardly ever post in the forums and only ever lurk this thread *sometimes*. I don't even know what this post is in reference to, but it's a good post. Especially the bolded parts. Emphasis is mine.

Are they referring to Tiny Moving Parts?

Yes, and frequent followers of this thread are probably well aware that there has been very little 'restorative justice' done by Dylan.

According to Dylan's camp (this comes from Jetty Bones), the situation happened when Dylan was younger and was "accidental" and a result of "not fully understanding communication."

I'm not telling this to defend him at all, but that's what she told my friend (why she was talking about this to someone uninvolved I have no idea, but I digress) and considering he's been quiet about the whole thing since his initial statement, I felt this was necessary to share. That's how his side is looking at the situation, or at least how they were when Jetty Bones told my friend that.

  10. so they specifically tag some people who were tweeting about it as a call out

to which they get a response that includes the condimentcutie stuff above and this is the response to that?

really hope i just don’t actually know shit about the situation cus that all seemingly sucks

I'm pretty sure what the type of restorative justice Prosper are referring to and the lack of what Dylan went through are two entirely different things. One can be cognizant of the disparities that people of color have when facing persecution and incarceration and being appreciate of restorative justice while recognizing that Dylan skirted by not facing any consequences and being a part of a restorative justice "program" for lack of better way of expressing it. Especially as a straight white dude.

I don't like how when someone brought up the situation Proper turned it into a race thing. Obviously everything they are saying re: restorative justice is true but the whole:

shaming white people just for questioning them being on the tour is...odd. Idk. I don't want to shame them for talking about their race and how society treats black people because they are right and their voice on that subject matter is needed but I am just conflicted on them using it here when someone is bringing up a non-race related situation of abuse.

extremely bad look to be out there justifying your decision to tour with an abuser by spinning it around to become a race issue. wildly bad take.

    lol - ok folks.

Naming specific twitter users for both your own band's fans, and the abuser's fans, to go after is quite a move to make in the same breath as expressing "joy" at getting to tour with a straight white dude who took advantage of a woman who was blacked out drunk.

Whoever is at the controls of their Twitter seems like an absolute moron and should probably take the time to reevaluate some shit. We need black voices and perspectives, especially in a scene so devoid of them, but this ignorant and unwavering stance in which they liken people wanting to hold a band accountable to the prison-industrial complex is dumb and reductive.

This is really disheartening. The band is representation for POC and LGBT and I don’t want this to ruin them.

It's EXTREMELY manipulative to imply that if you think abusers should be held accountable for their actions, then you somehow support the prison industrial complex's treatment of black people. That is not remotely an apples-to-apples comparison.

In fact, it's the opposite. The whole point of prison reform is to undo centuries of black people being over-punished for crimes (or being punished for crimes they didn't commit), whereas musicians/entertainers/etc have been leveraging their power to go un-punished or under-punished for their harmful actions. Just an insane take.
