Edu thinks we’re playing football manager here...

I think it's clear to a certain extent that the away goals rule is outdated - travelling is a lot less strenuous than it used to be, there's much less variation in the pitches and of course nowadays if you do the work you can know pretty much everything about your opponent because all the matches are filmed and so much data is available. The percentage of away wins in Europe used to be extraordinarily low when it was first introduced.

At the same time, I think the jeopardy and excitement you get in games because of the rule is really not something you throw away lightly. The feeling that one goal changes everything is obviously different to the feeling that one goal takes you to extra time/penalties.

Yeah same, I think. I guess I'd prefer City but in my mind it's only like four steps away from picking between Peter Sutcliffe and Harold Shipman (US readers may need to Google).

No matter what, nothing will ever suck more than Silver Goal.

I want to see both teams firing at all cylinders. A cool 3-3 with going into AET.

Golden Goal would work if they kept playing 15 minute chunks of extra time until the game was decided, NHL style.

Almost forgot, Brentford/Swansea play-off final in just over an hour.

Swansea look like they're overcome by the occasion. Abysmal performance so far.

    So assuming that this weekend...

Today is going to be one of the best footie days of the year.

Brentford looks like they’re going to be fantastic in the Prem, assuming they can hold on in this match. If they can counter attack against the bigger clubs the same way they did in their second goal today they’ll be a lot of fun to watch.

Later this afternoon I’ll be rocking some sky blue, because there is no way I can sit through watching Chelsea win the CL again.

I'll refer you to this post:

Basically that idea, but it just sucked. Teams were completely afraid to attack, because goals are less common in football and you didn't want to concede with 8 minutes left to score.

and they go and get a red card. What a fucking idiot.

Strange red card that. Think what would have just been a clip from turned in to a slip which turned in to a drop kick.

Looked like he tried to do him there. Deliberately went for the achilles from the angle behind.

I wonder if Brentford will stick to their transfer model or will they make some landmark signings. Christian Eriksen, for example. Considering their love for Danes.

Roy Keane and Mark Hughes both linked to the Celtic job in the past 24 hours. Not sure what Celtic have done to deserve this.

I love Roy Keane but he is just too angry to be a manager lol. Tbf he was once floored in one punch by his Nottingham Forest manager (Brian Clough!) for passing back to the goalkeeper, and he never did it again so that style of management certainly worked on him, but I think that says more about Keane than the style of management :crylaugh:

A good day to bring Clough up considering he won back to back European Cups for us!

My grandpa was at both, my mum at one. They drove all the way from Nottingham to Munich. Just a wonderful story.

Nothing like Chelsea & City’s journey to footballing success!
