Does anyone have the full details re: the Don Broco situation? I posted in the thread (since it’s active because they just announced a new album) asking if the sexual abuser was still in the band and was told that got disproved years ago, but I swear I heard this
    is what happened.

  3. a 100% no-details-given retraction (delivered via 3rd party, which iirc is what happened, correct me if I'm remembering it wrong) and unilateral apology that is that gleefully displayed by the dude in question will never not feel suspect to me

whether that's fair or not, it is what it is

Lloyd Vines worked with Chris last year. Take a look at this video for some of his thoughts, especially towards the end of it. Some industry people have been trying to control his own narrative about his experience with Chris. There's a few other details about Chris too.

Caught a bit of this, at least the parts you mentioned. I feel so hard for Vines. You can tell he’s super torn up, and understandably so. He also fell victim to that manipulation. Every day it gets more and more upsetting.

any timestamps on that vid to go to? it's pretty long

I don't have time stamp details at the moment. Really I'd advise setting aside a half hour and skipping around to the parts where he is talking, since a sizable portion of what he says is about Chris but it's scattered off and on through the video. The last 20 minutes or so is when he talks about Chris not being a real ally to BLM.

Make sure to also listen to his songs later though when you have more time cause that was the real intent of the video from what he was saying.

I accidentally posted about this in the "Accountability in Entertainment" thread (awkward) but I was wondering the same thing. They seem to be getting heaps of coverage for the new single/album and it sets an example that bands can just hide for a bit and when they come back, everyone will pretend it never happened (see: With Confidence).

    Composer, but never composed.

I feel like the accusations came out even before their last album campaign and then they immediately went on an arena tour, so I'm not sure that they really hid at all.

Fair point. I know when that tour happened though, at least where I am, they had heaps of trouble getting media to cover them. Right now, no one seems to be apprehensive at all.

What do you all think of this? Seeing arguments from both sides, but the gist is Phoebe stans are mad at her for not speaking out on the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Edit to add: I personally agree with the last tweet.

I think that last tweet is the answer to the question. I think using your platform is important, but it’s very dumb to shame celebs for just not posting, ya know?

The Secretly Group thing was annoying because she was affiliated with them and as someone with an imprint there could have spoke up but didn’t. Now, Palestinian liberation is one of the most important issues going on in the world from an internationalist lens, and has real traction for the first time in the West in my lifetime, so i can’t imagine not using your platform to call for justice and find ways to be supportive. Not sure I’d say “fuck Phoebe!” over it (unless she’s making a cynical decision based on not “alienating” fans), but it does re-affirm that solidarity does not come naturally to people who have “made it” in American/western culture.
