I don't agree with this at all, 4 Your Eyez Only was only two albums ago and sounds nothing like the new one. I don't really think the new one sounds like any of his other shit really besides some songs on KOD

This song is absolutely incredible, one of my favorite Kanye eras

Yeah I agree. I haven’t heard the new one but me liking some albums and not others makes me think they can’t sound the same.

    My favorite hidden Kanye gem:

Idk if it actually came out officially, in those days it was hard to tell sometimes. Anyway, I’ve always loved it.

I've heard about 300 hip hop albums, but that's nowhere near enough. I do, however, have two hip hop albums in my diverse top ten. I really want for it to be less rock oriented than it actually is.

Jay-Z is my personal favorite, but I couldn't get around to him for many years because I don't often buy albums because there's hardly a chance I'll want to listen to them more than once. Couldn't sign up for Tidal, either, so I had to outwait him until he put his albums on YT, the same way I outwaited Beatles (heard the whole discography), King Crimson (heard the whole discography), and Bob Dylan (dared myself to hear the whole discography of 38 albums at the time and succeeded). Most of that was looking for foreign streaming services, but Revolver was a challenge because I was looking specifically for the mono version. The stereo version has SERIOUS problems.

Right now, Jay-Z is the hip hop king to me. The Blueprint, Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album are all flawless IMO. Outkast comes next. I actually really like southern hip hop, even though I'm not well-versed in it, and Andre 3000 is one of my favorite rappers. I guess Kanye might come next. Nobody does pop rap like him, and his rapper voice is perfect for the scene he chose. Can't say I'm in love with Kendrick, but To Pimp a Butterfly is one of the greatest examples of the variety one can expect from hip hop. I wouldn't call it the greatest hip hop album of all time, however. Kind of Blue is a perfect introductory album to jazz, and that's one of several reasons I consider it the best jazz album. TPAB is too overloaded for that benefit.

At a party last night I named my personal top four, which after some thought ended up as Andre 3000, Black Thought, Earl Sweatshirt, and Kendrick.

Top 4 is hard. Judging on skill, delivery, creativity, lyricism and ability to connect across more than one pocket of hip hop/rap, then I’d say:

    Biggie
    Kendrick
    Jay
    Em

My top five basically is what many could guess it is:

    Biggie
    LL Cool J
    Jay Z
    Cam’ron
    Ghostface

That’s not to say I listen to any of them as much as I used to when I was a teenager, but somehow this still feels right. Sometimes I have put in others instead of Ghost and/or Cam though (about five to maybe ten other rappers).

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I'm liking that top 3, in fact that would probably be mine exactly. I'd throw in Ghostface and call that my Mount Rushmore

It's the same for me. The top 5 or 10 or whatever can really fluctuate and be hard to pin down but the top 3 remains steady and comes easy.

Replace Kendrick with like Raekwon and I would see a pattern there lol

A new angle on the J. Cole discussion: now that he plays for the Rwandan Patriots, where does he now rank among rapping professional basketball players? Is he now the best by default? Or is it secretly still Shaq? :eyes:

What else are you tired of? Write down a couple of examples, maybe rank them in order of most tired?
