The bands themselves just said less than a week ago that the US tour is still on so I'm sticking with that until I hear otherwise.

Pete Wentz didn’t route this tour so I expect an announcement by June of this being pushed to 2022. New York is JUST saying 33% capacity for outdoor stadiums in May. And i don’t know if you can enforce negative tests/vaccination proof for entry since this has been onsale since 2019.

For what it’s worth no way the Toronto date goes ahead. Ontario is way behind in vaccines. People getting first dose now have their 2nd dose scheduled in mid August. Obviously that’s just 1 date but if there are other areas that can’t go ahead they may have no choice but to postpone even if it can go ahead in certain markets.

Toronto's MLB team can't even go to Canada currently, I'd imagine touring bands wouldn't be allowed either?

Yeah it’s not happening. Earliest shows I can see happening is fall but even that’s a big if and I’m certainly not expecting 50,000+ stadium shows even then in Ontario.

Reflecting on it, the biggest question mark for a seated show like this is capacity. They've already sold X tickets and they don't know if people are vaccinated or not. Many are re-opening with a plan of having X number of people per square foot with vaccinated people not counting toward that capacity limit.

How will they know how many people are vaccinated until they actually walk right up to the gates? They wouldn't. This is less of a concern for events (e.g., festivals) without assigned seating. But I can see that being a logistical nightmare for seated events.

It's less about "Can they do it?" so much as "Is it feasible to do given the required logistics." And the answer is probably a no. They might be good for some of the cities by the time the dates roll around, but with this thing starting in July I'd guess there's more than enough dates they'd have to roll over for the whole thing to get postponed.

EDIT: It also makes perfect sense the bands would continue to "plan" to do the show until government restrictions force them not to do them. I'm sure that's a stipulation in the insurance, agreements they have in place with the venues, etc.

I don’t think there’s any way this happens this year

Having Governors Ball announced in Sep to be at Citi Field yet somehow doubting a show a mere month earlier at the same venue is super confusing and not consistent. I feel like the NYC area may be trying to open things up a bit too early and I hope those projections are right because otherwise we'll have take some huge steps backwards which will screw the fall.

  10. i'd listen to the promoters/venues/cities before listening to the bands themselves. the bands aren't calling the shots.

I'd position it this way. If it were YOU and you had to take, say, a $2mm insurance loss (or some astronomical figure) if you went ahead with 2021 yet cancelled last minute OR you could reschedule the tour to 2022 while also generating some revenue from playing scattered festival dates, I think most people would pick the 2022 option.

FWIW, I was doing some reading an article about concerts in Boston and what they might look like as things move forward. While the state plans on removing all restrictions on August 1st (our Hella Mega date is August 5th), the city itself doesn't plan on doing that until August 22nd. It's a little fuzzy, because there's concerts before that one that seem to think they'll be moving forward but...

Given this info, I'd put the Boston date as "iffy at best."

This is the main reason a lot of smaller festivals here in England have had to cancel, they can't get insurance to cover late cancellations so would rather not risk the hit and just postpone until next year.

Concerts may go on, but with limited seating? No idea how <THAT> would work, for Boston.... Maybe the numbers go down enouigh that Boston opens earlier?

That's my hope. But it's super confusing right now. A rep from the Red Sox came out and said concerts would be going ahead as planned and I really don't know how they could handle that logistically if the city still has limited capacity in place.

Dead & Co just announced a stadium tour in August, hitting a lot of these same venues.

I really think that Minnesota newspaper was just misinformed. I'm still pretty confident this is gonna move forward.

If the CDC is saying vaccinated people do not need to wear masks and cities are lifting the mask mandates I honestly cannot see why this will not happen.

FWIW, I e-mailed my local venue (Boston) to try and sort out an issue I had with my tickets. They told me to "stay tuned to any concert updates in the coming weeks via email." I'm not sure if that means there's more updates coming in terms of a postponement or just any sort of restrictions they might have in place. Or if they're just saying that in case something comes up. But... It seemed like an odd way to tag an email.

The Stadium Tour with Motley Crue/Poison/Def Leppard/Joan Jett was just moved -- again -- to Summer 2022, was supposed to start in about a month. That HAS to be a sign for this one, right? Basically some of the same venues and same size crowds...
