I think the line between good and bad lyrics is often unclear

 

delivery is pretty important, yes.

 

This line is not nonsense it's just not an American phrase

Is that a thing?I've seen the inverse; a lot of instrumental pieces I feel are treated as much more substantive than anything with vocals.

 

I wish I could get more into instrumental music but I tune out way more easily with instrumental music

 

I'll play instrumental stuff in the car with my mom and she'll be like "where's the vocals" every single time

 

It's all about mood and time/place. There's a time when I want Icona Pop. There's a time when I want Debussy.

 

there are just a couple of instrumental bands i can listen to, but i can listen to them any time in any place. with most others, though, i'm left thinking "add vocals and i'd be a little less bored"

I don't really understand the mindset of separating music into "instrumental" or not

I mean obviously the distinction exists but it doesn't really play into my enjoyment or interest at any point

 

Agree with all this. Lyrics are more of a bonus than a necessity for me for the most part. I listen to music because I want to hear music. If words are really the main focus then why not just read some poetry? Im not telling anyone how to enjoy their art but I guarantee there are far more poets who are eloquent and spot on with their vernacular than musicians who are trying to fit a specific melody.

 

Radiohead's Bangers and Mash had the best lyrics out of any other Radiohead song.

 

Can we just change this thread into talking about how good Bjork is
