I'm just fucking up left and right. FAD has better songs but IOH is more consistent

Aim & Ignite > Some Nights
AB/AP > SRAR and most of their pre hiatus stuff.

I liked a few songs on SRAR when it came out but haven't had the desire to revisit it since 2013.
I think FAD is both more consistent (both in sound and in quality) and has better songs haha. Then again, I still love IOH, and it's probably tied for second with FUCT for me. I will say that it easily has my favorite closer of theirs.

Again, not sure how unpopular this is anymore, but I think Pete Wentz is an atrocious lyricist. When I was a bigger FOB fan around the time of TTYG and FUCT, I loved his lyrics, I thought they were super clever and interesting. Listening back to those old records now, they're just a string of non-sequitur one liners, absolutely dire stuff.

And don't get me started on his poetry...

There's the odd line I like from him but for the most part I don't like his lyrics either.

my top 2 are FAD and SRAR.

I do not like AB/AP apart from like 3 songs.

I still love Petes lyrics, reminds me a lot of Keith Buckley but not quite as good

I liked American Beauty/American Psycho upon release, but probably haven't listened in about a year. "The Kids Aren't Alright" is still a top-notch song, though.

Yeah AB/AP didn't really hold up at all for me. After a few weeks of listening, I really liked it and thought it would stand up nicely in their discography. Now I think it's a clear weak spot.

I don't really like any FOB album fully but I have a playlist of their songs that I really like. AB/AP has the second most after Folie.

To be fair, I almost never listen to that band.

Me neither. I do enjoy it whenever I do listen to the songs I like though. I just wish they'd put out full albums as good as their best songs.

    The rivalry is back on

I really enjoyed the first 3 FOB albums, but rarely listen now unless I just want to listen to something nostalgic.

FAD was the first one that didn't hold my interest at all, and now, I like them more than most of the other things on Top 40, but have no interest in listening to an entire full length.

People who like Bon Iver and the National need to stop complaining about other band's "nonsense lyrics."

I also love both bands and the National is second only to whatever Brian Fallon is up to. Just saying it's mad hypocritical of people haha.

both those bands have astronomically better lyrics than most other bands making music today despite the fact that sometimes they're a little "nonsense."

It's not really hypocritical to like the lyrics of one band and not another. The ways in which they are "nonsense" aren't the same so it's completely understandable why one style might stick with someone and another might put them off.

I don't think that's necessarily true. The National's lyrics are wonderfully evocative at times despite being surreal and odd at times, "I am a birthday candle in a circle of black girls", for example. And Bon Iver use lyrics far more for their phonetic sound within the song, if that makes sense, I see their lyrical content a bit like Sigur Ros in that sort of way. And Justin can write beautiful lyrics and phrases, like all of Re: Stacks.

And to bring that back to Fall Out Boy, i think the lyrics are far more promiment in their sound, and are far more desperate to impress / depserate to appear insightful, it actively detracts from the song. I feel at times listening to them, that Pete is trying to cram in as many one-liners into a song as possible, even if it fucks up the flow.

Radiohead may be the best example of nonsense lyrics.

Kid A is fucking amazing and the lyrics were supposedly drawn at random.

Bjork is also a great example of someone who isn't a particularly good lyricist, but doesn't detract from her music, because it doesn't revolve around the lyrics like FOB does.

Admittedly I could not tell you a single line from Kid A and I love that album. Lyrics can be secondary to me if it's clear that's the band's approach.

It's a little different with a band like Beach Slang, where I think the songs are catchy but I can't help but dwell on how...."limited" the lyrical content may be
