I've prob complained about it before, but I have a small room so I wanted floating bookshelves. My mom volunteered her husband to make me some. I sent him pics of ones I liked, all of which had like brackets or something on the end to keep books from falling. He wanted to do a design he liked and I still didn't care cause free shelves. All I asked was for something on the ends to keep books up. He did not, so I can't use them until I get bookends. Where's Chandler to give me an AZ???

Cheap solution but time consuming. Buy the RE shelves at target and then reinforce them with L shaped brackets from Amazon.

My apartment is so boring, looking through this thread just makes me want to decorate more. The only interesting thing we have a is a life size stuffed animal leopard.

    thread is dead.

i have some posters that i want to get framed, but i've never done it before. should i go the cheap route and get frames from target, or is it worth the extra money to take them to michaels or someplace like that?

I've actually been wondering the same thing. I have a couple of signed Copeland and Anberlin posters I need to hang up... I was thinking I'd just hit up IKEA sometime, though.

I've heard getting frames made at Michael's is super expensive. But then I can't even afford the $20 frames at target

Same. That seems like an absurd amount of money to spend on a frame.

i bought a few larger frames for autographed posters at michaels while they had a pretty big sale. by their emails it looks like they have them often. i think for 3 i paid $65, but one was significantly bigger than the others.

Every time I come home and my wife has bought a new frame I wonder what meal I now have to sacrifice that week.

Dude don't cover up that wall. Maybe some cool art on the wall on the left, but definitely don't cover that brick.

I know nothing about interior design but I feel like some black and white photos or drawings would be good there.

I'd actually add something colorful! I love the furniture and stuff there but I think it's monochromatic enough and matches with almost anything enough that something with a pop of color would look really good. But I'm biased cause I'm a fan of the color!

I agree, something reddish like the TV stand to bring some more color into the room.

I guess the brick wall doesn't really need anything on it, it's its own decoration type of deal. It's just that my kitchen also has the same wall and it's sorta just one big room so it seriously is like I have nothing on any wall in the main living area!

The only plain wall is the one behind the couch but you're right I could do something there. Red would tie it all together but would be a lot of red between the brick and TV stand!

I like don't even know where people buy wall hangings that aren't generic prints from bed bath and beyond.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!!

Owning a home is such a money pit. I bought my house 2 and a half years ago and it just seems the work is never ending...and I bought a home that was built in 2008. I re-carpeted the entire house, re-painted every room in the house, had to furnish 3 bedrooms and a living room and a dining room and kitchen. I just paid off my Levin Furniture credit card last month after 3 years worth of purchases. I have a basement that is unfinished but would LOVE to finish it someday, but I know that's going to cost an arm and a leg.

Anyone have any tips on finishing basements? Did you go with one company to do everything? Or several contractors to complete the job? I heard the latter is cheaper.

  25. So I closed on this house this past Tuesday. There's a lot of work that needs to be done inside in order to make it look like it's not from 1980.

Our first project is painting everything. We have these awesome built in shelves in the family room. You can see where I started to prime the wood on the left and the original wood color on the right. We aren't a fan of the wood and wanted a more modern look. The paneling in the back will be a light grey with the shelves and the walls of the shelves will be a bright white...we hope it will give it that "3D look".
