  2. Truly a terrible take lol

Anyways, no idea how I felt about Violation, honestly, other than it was beautifully shot.

Watched Violation as well and my thoughts are the same. Need more time to think about it

  6. If space movies can't be horror then neither can ocean movies. They're both equally terrifying. Jaws and Alien are comedies now?

Space and the ocean are like the two scariest things

Thats a recurring debate with my friends: which is scarier, space or the ocean. The ocean is 100000% scarier.

The ocean hands down for me. Jaws taps into a severe fear for me that extends back to literally getting afraid in my grandmother's above ground pool. It's not just the massive shark either, its not being able to see under the surface that is pure terror for me.

Have to agree with you two. Started playing this game called Subnautica where you have to explore an ocean on an alien planet. Fucking terrifying

I go back and forth with the ocean/space debate. Space is infinite, but like....sea creatures.

  12. Gotta agree on the ocean, but I'm not sure I can put into words why. Both are so vast, but there's something about knowing (or not knowing) what you might run into in the void on our planet...and how much more likely it is to brush up against your leg, lol. Creepy stuff.

It comes down to a few things. One is that I can rationalize the ocean in my head, and it scares me. Space is so vast and seemingly infinite and I just don't fear it. If I were dropped at the bottom of the ocean in a little suit, I'd probably see some fucked up shit and be terrified the entire time. If I got dropped in outer space in a little suit, I think I'd either be in total darkness or see some cool shit

  14. I usually enjoy horror more when there's sci fi or fantasy involved. I guess that's why I haven't looked into a lot of slashers and such

slasher is probably my least favorite subgenre of horror, but I did really enjoy the last Halloween movie

Ghostface, Michael, and Freddy instilled my love for horror, but anything outside of those has always felt subpar to me...as far as slashers go.

Slasher is far and away my favorite

  19. Didn't mean to put down the entire subgenre of slashers, just used it as an example; I haven't seen enough to form a solid opinion. Happy Death Day 1-2 are fantastic, but like, there's supernatural stuff going on, you know? Also, if it's something like Saw or Hostel where it's just people hurting people, I'm a bit less interested in that kind of thing as well. I love Mike Flanagan's work, Hush and Gerald's Game just happen to be my least favorite of his.

I definitely didn’t take your post as a put-down at all. Horror’s got lots of flavors. Halloween and Scream are my favorite films of all time, but I can absolutely understand why they wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

Halloween and Scream rule that horror sub genre for me just based on originality and acting. I love NOES for the most part as well, and though there is no point to try to separate those films from the slasher label now, they never felt like I was watching slasher films. Freddy is technically an evil spirit of sorts haunting kids. There’s such good detail in the story (the cover up, the parent mob that killed him, the fact that his strength grows off fear and the scary realization he could come back into the real world) that’s so different from what I recognize typically as slasher films. Same thing with Candyman. The basic premise has generally always been discovering a killer on the loose, finding out who they are and what their motivation is.

The others that I like which fit the bill but I know aren’t on the same level would be:
I Know What You Did Last Summer
    Black Christmas
    The Strangers
    TCM

Slashers were my go-to growing up so I even love the shitty slashers... and god there are a lot of shitty slashers.

Whole sub genre just feels like fucked up comfort food

  24. For sure. I mean Friday is probably my favorite slasher franchise and I don't even care that the first film was a Halloween ripoff. I love all of the campy (no pun intended) tropes those films laid out for horror moving forward

I like slasher mysteries. I wish a lot of the shows that did it were mini-series instead of ten episodes of red herrings. The show Slasher has some obnoxious story telling, despite awesome kills.
