Totally agree, just glad it's hopefully moving back in the right direction...

Any Canadians on here want to tell me about Trudeau? My impression is that he says the fashionable, right things but hasn't gotten down to actually governing or pursuing anything concrete. I know nothing about Canadian politics, but I believe that his opponent was looked at similarly to how we view Trump. Am I off?

  7. So, that may be the best speech I've seen Hillary give. God damn. Went hard.

WHY THE FUCK IS THE CAMPAIGN STILL ALLOWING HER TO MAKE PUBLIC APPEARANCE ON HIS BEHALF?

I just don't get it. If there were ever a harbinger that the "he's just a straw man for Hillary" conspiracy theories were true, it's that Pierson hasn't been shit canned.

Also, to be fair to the Donald, that HRC quote re: how dare you show the nerve to ask that of people you have ignored and mistreated is pretty fucking ironic. Her entire campaign is based off of extorting supporters that she's horribly mistreated, politically disenfranchised, said were young and uninformed, etc and mobilizing racial minorities whose families here and abroad have suffered for her political success.

Other than because he was accused of sexual assault, can someone explain to me why Assange isn't, at the very least, an antihero? I'm with Jill on this one. If you're suspect of Washington, he's outing them and exposing their secrets and lies. If you're an authoritarian that respects the sacredness of the state and wants to prevent/punish state hacks, he's sure as hell ensuring that the state upgrade and refine their security processes.

  15. WikiLeaks outs gay people in Saudi Arabia in ‘reckless’ mass data dump
Among the thousands of documents, the data includes personal information identifying at least one man with a gay sex conviction – as well as a number of rape victims and people living with HIV.

It also makes public the identity of domestic workers who had been tortured or sexually abused by their employers – even listing people’s passport numbers, alongside their full names.

One of the cables includes private details of a Saudi man detained for ‘sexual deviation’ – the charge for homosexuality – raising fears of reprisals or ‘vigilante’ attacks.

A disabled woman whose private debt information was released in the data dump told Associated Press: “This is a disaster.

“What if my brothers, neighbours, people I know or even don’t know have seen it? What is the use of publishing my story?”

A doctor whose patients’ data was released branded the leak “illegal”.

    "Hero."

  16. Rieder: The casual cruelty of WikiLeaks
Make no mistake, uncovering government secrets can play an important, positive role. Think of the Pentagon Papers and the disclosure of the Watergate horrors. I'd argue Snowden performed a public service when he revealed hitherto unknown government surveillance, prompting a critical national debate. More recently, the Panama Papers and their revelations about shadowy offshore financial transactions had international impact.

Bringing truth to light is what journalism — at its best — is all about. But minimizing harm is also a vital part of the equation. All of the ambitious goals and lofty rhetoric are no excuse for gratuitously damaging innocent people in the process.

I guess this helps clarify, even though I don't think there is much ideological consistency in the alt-right other than anti-PC rhetoric.

I wonder if the author at all understand the power components of racial preference and how they differ between minority communities being more comfortable within their ethnic subset and majority communities trying to strengthen their cultural dominance of them.

All hail Trump...what a joke. (I know he's pointing, but that's the first impression I got)
