Good guy, but a bad dude

Only ever got to catch them on the Octa tour. It was great but they cut the set short because Cedric was having issues with his voice.

I’m a big fan of Amp - always surprised to see it ranked after Bedlam or anything that came after

the first three is where it’s at IMO but I also enjoy some post-Amp stuff of course

la Volta live are a force to be reckoned with - was lucky enough to see them live three times & it was always amazing

I’m buying into the theory that Clouds Hill is sitting on/working on new Volta material.

almost certain we’ll finally be seeing some represses. My wallet is crying.

De-Loused is def the best starting point... consensus #1 and has a great mix of accessible and long/proggy stuff. Just an iconic record.

    After that, not necessarily:
    - Frances and Amp are incredibly dense and proggy with 5-10 minute sections of instrumental noise at times

    - Bedlam (my personal #1) is a tour de force, probably their most diverse, heaviest, and most melodic with one earworm after another... same length as Francis, but spread across actual songs

    - Oct is really accessible but more subdued and solemn with an acoustic focus

    - Noct is like a more electronic and textural take on the Bedlam/Oct songwriting... a big slow grower for me

Deloused is the best starting point for sure. A classic record. Frances and Amp are dense and proggy but they're also the band at their most creative and idiosyncratic. I absolutely LOVE those records and consider them masterpieces. I actually could never emotionally connect with Bedlam, though it's a good album.

Oct is v underrated. That album is seriously gorgeous. I never got into Noct besides a few songs TBH.

I got to see them twice: once in 2008 on the Bedlam tour where they played a two and a half hour set with no breaks, it was legendary. Then I got to see three years later at a secret Coachella set when they were billed as a solo Omar set where they previewed a lot of Noctourniquet before we even knew a new album was coming.

What a great band. My favorites from each album:

    Deloused - Cicatriz Esp
    Frances - Cygnus..Vismund Cygnus
    Amputechture - Viscera Eyes
    Bedlam - Aberinkula
    Octahedron - Luciforms
Noctourniquet - Zed and Two Naughts

  10. With the way that Omar can pump out music/albums, if he was in any way focused on this it would be completed - no?

It's honestly hard to say anymore, he barely releases any music anymore so I have no barometer of what exists or not.

I mean, he did re-record that collection of old songs. One of my favorite vinyl purchases

Yeah, but three EPs of re-recorded music in three years is a far cry from 23 albums in two years

For sure. I remember Cedric implying that they’ve been working on stuff for awhile, I doubt anything is fully recorded though. I would be ecstatic for even the second Antemasque album

This band will forever remind me of my daughter bc it was the last band I was listening to before my wife started having contractions lol. I am now a dad.

Before I get too overexcited, this may be a reissue of sorts, but maybe with bonus material? Either way... I'm listening
