The Knowledge and the Beast has to do with a new album, right?

 

Knowledge and Beast are the code names for Cambria and Coheed.

Claudio did an impromptu twitch stream and answered a few questions.
He did, in fact, confirm they are currently "passing demos around" between themselves and that PFI will be out in the next 1-4 months" and is called "the City Introvert".

ive been meaning to get rid of some old mugs, so that means this can replace.

Been on a pretty big Coheed kick lately. Mostly just listening to their newest albums. So good. I don't think it's super popular but I love The Colour Before the Sun. The Unheavenly Creatures kicks ass too. Gonna do a listen of Ascension/Descension today

 

Yeah TCBTS is usually the consensus least favorite along with YOTBR, but hey, do your thing. I think Ghost is one of the most underrated Coheed songs.

 

YOTBR is a strong album. Still dont understand the hate.

 

The production on it is completely baffling for them and they were forced into a sound that they didn’t fit into by them

It’s an okay album, but Ross/Barresi made it worse than it really is.

 

I'd also argue that it's Claudio's worst vocal performance. I know some of the imperfections were left to make it sound more "raw" or whatever, but it's not for me. After this album is when Claudio stopped smoking and lost a lot of weight. Watch the documentary about the recording of this album vs the later albums. I do think the songs are there, and about half the album is great.

 

Yeah, it was just a lot of bad going on all at once. That documentary really shines a light on just weird the production choices were. They also left one of the better songs off the album and kept it as a b side. Pennie also just never fit with the band sonically either.

 

Yeah it was quite depressing watching that documentary after watching the NWFT one. But, the Afterman one definitely showed how revitalized the band was. YOTBR is better now knowing what they've been able to do since then though.

 

Agreed. When Skeletons Live was seemingly one vocal take... and not exactly a fantastic one. I like the song but keeping the voice cracks feels unnecessary.

 

Color Before the Sun rules. I agree that the least good Coheed album is probably YOTBR and I'm not super high on NWFT.

That got really hard after IKS until SSTB, I would say I love all those albums and just think they have minor flaws compared to my top 3. I think most fans would swap NWFT for SSTB but I prefer the produced classic rock worship more than the raw SSTB.
