Doesn’t Universal still own the rights to Namor?

Caught up on this over the last few nights. Thought they were doing some really cool things with the blended outside/inside storytelling.

For the folks arguing over Quicksilver, to me if seems like you’re making it more complicated than it has to be by over explaining studio contract and licensing negotiations. “That guy’s saying he’s her brother but it isn’t what he used to look like. It’s a different actor and there’s something off about him.” is enough to help someone orient to the story.

Apparently they still own distribution rights, but Marvel holds the rights to use Namor, so it's in the same situation Hulk is/was in, where they can use him in other movies as a supporting character, but if they made a solo film they'd have to distribute with Universal. Or as the articles I read on it called it, "complicated".

Wanda expanded the boundaries. Who’s to say she can’t expand it to the entire world? And that could unlock mutant abilities that are dormant in mutants all over the world.

I don’t necessarily think that’s what will happen, but her expanding the boundaries opens a lot of possibilities.

They should just merge the MCU Earth with an Earth from the multiverse where the X-Men and mutants exist already. Have everyone except the heroes involved in that storyline have their memories altered to believe mutants have always existed. That would be a quick solution.

This could also be used preserve certain parts of the X-Men characters' backstory that are getting harder and harder to do as time goes on. For example, Magneto's history as a survivor of the Holocaust is crucial to his character, however in 2021 even the youngest living Holocaust survivors are pushing 80 at this point. But if Magneto and the rest of the X-Men were brought over from another universe where it was, like, the 1960s or 1970s, then that would resolve that problem.

Once you're talking about merging alternate universes, you can really work in whatever explanations you want in order to have the characters appear in the form you want them to.

Had watched the first episode at premiere and wasn’t really caught by it. But I caught up over the past 2 days and think it got really good so I’m glad I jumped back in.

Wanda and Pietro acknowledging that they didn’t have Russian accents in the sitcom was really funny to me. There’s no way her having it outside when speaking to Sword agents or when she gets confused by people breaking character, but not in the sitcom isn’t an intentional nod to the criticisms of her accent coming and going in the Avenger films.

Some questions maybe you guys can help me with since I’ve been blank on MCU details after Endgame
-Is Monica and her mom from the comics and do they play bigger roles we haven’t gotten to yet? Feel like Darcy bringing up her molecular changes is a big hint at her gaining powers by the end of the season.
-What is her connection to Captain Marvel? Did I completely miss that or does Darcy know but hasn’t said anything?
-Does this situation resemble anything from previous comic stories? I had to google the two possible villains who were discussed in here but didn’t see any connection.

In the comics, Monica becomes a superhero, so I imagine that's where they're heading. Won't post too much past that since it seems new to you and I don't wanna spoil.

Monica's connection to Captain Marvel? If that's what you're asking, Monica's mom was Captain Marvel's friend in the Capt. Marvel movie, and Monica was her kid who also know Carol.

And lastly, yeah, it's definitely taking cues from a series called House of M, where after Wanda realizes her twins weren't real and her memory of them erased, she creates an alternate universe where they're alive and mutants are the main "species" on Earth. At the end of it, she declared "no more mutants" and all but 198 of Marvel's mutants lost their powers. They're also taking a lot of cues from West Coast Avengers in the 80's(?) and the Scarlet Witch & Vision miniseries from around that time, which dealt with their marriage and the kids. Deeeeefinitely some cues from a recent miniseries with Vision where he had a family in suburbia where things... weren't quite what they seemed. Again, trying to be vague cause I don't wanna spoil any fun stuff for you!

Monica Rambeau was Marvel's second Captain Marvel, created in the 80s by Roger Stern. She took the mantle (mostly to hold onto the "Captain Marvel" trademark so DC can't use it for Shazam) after the original, Captain Mar-Vell, died of cancer; Carol Danvers didn't take the mantle until a few decades later. Monica actually was briefly the leader of the Avengers, which was cool 'cause Storm was also leader of the X-Men in the 80s, but then Captain America writer Mark Gruenwald demanded that Cap take over leadership, which led to Roger Stern leaving Avengers & Monica being shamed & sidelined for years. Eventually she lost the Captain Marvel named to another character & became Photon. These days, she goes by the name Spectrum.

Pretty cool character, who's had some version of a sharp black & white costume through her various names & positions. Her history is just a real bummer. I hate that she went from Captain Marvel in the 80s to occasionally a white Captain Marvel's black friend.

For more, check out Nextwave by Warren [unfortunately a creep to women] Ellis & Stuart Immonen (a humor series), Al Ewing's Ultimates & Ultimates 2 (a more sci-fi-ish series that also has Black Panther & Carol Danvers), Marvel Divas (a deceptively/poorly marketed character-driven miniseries written by a big Archie guy, with Black Cat & Firestar & Patsy Walker Hellcat)... and, if you like old school superhero comics, read some 80s Avengers.

I just wish recommending it didn't have to come with that footnote of "yeah, the writer used his power to take advantage of women trying to break into the industry." :-/

That Stuart Immonen art rules, though.

Decided to watch the first episode today because I just wanted something short, ended up burning through all 6 episodes. I think this is by far the best thing Marvel has done yet. Now I'm furious that I have to watch weekly like a fucking loser

Malcom spoof was so much fun. Can't wait to see what they do for 2000s stuff. I'm guessing Modern Family?

Was there anything to note about the Incredibles (2004) and Parent Trap (1998) being in the theater at the same time other than to show "this is late 90s early 2000s but not a specific time"?
