That’s part of what I said came from, the corporate radio side of it. I grew up on country and bluegrass through my dad and I truly hate the trash that fills the major airwaves. There’s these great artists that are getting ignored because their politics or identity doesn’t fit the casted mold. But again, I’m misplacing anger at the wrong people.

 

Yeah, I only heard of him a couple of weeks ago when he was in some top 10 songs of the year video I watched. But I’m the furthest thing from a country music fan and also English, so that’s not surprising. Country music is next to non existent over here.

 

He's been pretty big in country for awhile, but he's arguably the biggest recording artist period in 2021 so far, with the possible exception of Olivia Rodrigo. Dude was heading for his fourth week straight at the top of the albums chart.

There's a lot that's still really problematic and fucked up about the country music industry, but I think most of the artists worth listening to would acknowledge that fact and are taking steps to make a positive difference.

 

My guess is it’s something along the lines of “he makes us a lot of money so we’re going to stop publicly supporting him til this blows over.”

 

Yep, a suspension is a big nothing burger. I’m sure in a few months time they’ll start the rehabilitation process of his image and market that

 

"Suspension" probably just means they stop promoting him for the time being.

 

They won’t kick him to the curb, he’s worth too much.

 

I don't know what suspension means for music but if it means anything like it does in the NFL it means he'll quietly collect a bit less money for a month or two and then it's business as usual

 

Totally understand. I've posted dumb stuff and got into it when other posters called me out, mainly because I was dealing with some stuff. We're all learning.

 

I agree with this, I always get such weird vibes when people seem happy an artist is "canceled". Feels like they're more focused on dunking on an artist they don't like than actually acknowledging abuse or wrongdoing for the right reasons.

 

Its confirmation bias. Something I know I’ve been guilty of in the recent past and something I’m sure plenty others on here (forum in general, not just this thread) have been guilty of too.

Dude just needs help in general. Watched him live a few times since 2009 and it was very clear that he was using substances just to get through the set, at the obvious detriment to his performance. The last time, he was on these stilts and I kept wondering if he was gonna fall and seriously hurt himself on stage because he was so out of mind fucked up.

That said, his addictions are not excuses for his actions or abuse in any way but I do think it’s a big part of why he is what he is.

 

I don't think addiction has any bearing on some of the despicable shit he's done.

 

That wasn’t my point though. The point I made was that addiction is a big issue with him and something that’s actively affected him and people around him for many years along with his abuse. As I said too, it’s not an excuse for his abuse nor am I absolving him either. Hell maybe it’s just a shinfo point to bring up in general, idk but I do think as a human that the guy needs some serious ass help and therapy for it.

 

Hell, maybe this is the wrong thread to bring that up in.

 

Not accountability, but it sucks that the Morgan Wallen news is eclipsing this. The Brothers Osborne rules and could easily fit alongside Wallen's sound. Glad that they're finding peace with this announcement.

 

For what it's worth, most of the country artists/writers in my Twitter feed who started the day denouncing Wallen were signal-boosting this story/congratulating T.J. by lunchtime.
