Sophie meant so much to the trans community. This is so terrible.

This is the one song I can’t get out of my head right now. It’s been a bit heavier in my rotation these days, oddly enough.

The transition coming out of the first chorus > post chorus > verse 2 and that lead keyboard riff kind of just sets into that lower register... man, it just takes me somewhere else, idk...

I’m like welling up just thinking about it. It is so good.

Rip she was one of the most creative producers out there and it's just devastating all around.

So I’m admittedly not super familiar with Sophie’s work. I’ve heard stuff here and there but would not call myself a dedicated fan by any means. Where is a good place to start?

Omg. I never followed her super closely but I always dug what I heard and know she is a huge influence on a lot of the stuff I DO love. What a tragic loss

RIP. So fucking devastated over this

    Very much this.

Like mentioned above, this album is probably the best intro into Sophie’s work, but some stand-out tracks for me, both her own self-released music or tracks she had a hand in with producing or featured on:

    Immaterial
    It’s Okay to Cry
    Vyzee
Just Like We Never Said Goodbye
    Lemonade
    1, 2, 3 Dayz Up - Kim Petras
    Lipgloss - Charli XCX
    Vroom Vroom - Charli XCX
Out of My Head - Charli XCX
    Hey QT - QT
    Nights With You - MO
9 (After Coachella) - Cashmere Cat
    Forever (SOPHIE Remix) - Fletcher
    Count on You - Banoffee

Tbh I think Product is the best place to start just because OIL develops and diverges from there in many different ways and it’s nice to have that context.

but yes, the production she did for others is just as integral as her proper projects.

Which is to say nothing of her music that was only ever played live or unreleased. Reason Why with her and Kim Petras is such a jam

Crazy and tragic news to wake up to. I really enjoyed her work with other artists and obviously Oil was excellent.

I’ve been crying off and on since I woke up, there is so much I want to say but I can’t really find the words. I fell in love with my spouse dancing to these songs and we’ve continued to dance to them over the past eight years. I’ve had transcendent/life-affirming experiences at her shows and made friendships obsessing over her music, some of which started on this forum. She manipulated sound in a way that felt truly new - though many have tried she is entirely inimitable.
I remember Nothing More to Say quietly dropping on Numbers and knowing the project would be something special, but I could never have predicted she would change pop music forever.

Just a tragic loss that I won’t be over any time soon.

SOPHIE’s music imagined the world as it should be rather than lamenting how it is. As necessary as it is to spotlight the oppression, abuse, and murder of queer and trans people in the shadow of cis straight power structures that have whiled away the 21st century fumbling the ball on injustices visited on minority groups, it is also nice to vanish into a pocket universe where you aren’t the other, and you don’t have to justify your existence to people who hadn’t given it much thought before, and you’re just receiving healing art from someone who quietly gets it.)

Hope this doesn’t sound weird, but there is almost a haunting sort of quality throughout this album now, one that wasn’t quite there before, like it is now... It’s made me emotional several times today. So eerie.
