Brand New is not a band to write the same song over and over again(except for YFW), so I don't know how indicative the single can be to the overall sound of their new album.

 

So, this was posted back in the day by The Up Studio, who designed the Pogolith zines. Didn't know that the, "You will get it when it's finished." thing has been going on since Spring 2015.

 

It's hard to worry about Brand New when American Football are putting new music out.

 

I've never heard of American Football until this week, and I have to say, they already have an (admittedly irrational) stigma on them because I associate them with Modern Baseball. If only due to the band name referencing a sport.

They are in a different league completely. I hate Modern Baseball, love American Football.

Wait, I'm not alone is disliking Modern Baseball? I've avoided shitting on them on here 'cause I thought they were a band people generally liked. Haha

I was always really lukewarm on MoBo musically, though I appreciated their work ethic and their respect for their fans. That being said, Holy Ghost is one of my favorite albums this year...really fantastic stuff.

 

When I first heard of Modern Baseball, I assumed their name was a parody/wink to American Football

 

I like maybe 3 songs on Holy Ghost, but other than that, eh.

 

I agree about mobo I only dig a few songs from the new one. Just Another Face is good

 

I don't understand the love either. I can't stand them.

 

Modern Baseball = no me gusta.

 

I love how they put out a teaser and made people excited and wonder, and then a couple days later another teaser, but within the week they announced something really cool! Got people excited w/o making them impatient and annoyed!

Car Seat Headrest just clicked for me so I'm good for a few weeks. Honestly haven't thought about Brand New that often in recent weeks. Its been nice.

 

The Car Seat Headrest album is soooo good it's just starting to click with me. Takes a while with longer albums.
Also Modern Baseball are great and I actually don't know what people don't like about them because no one ever articulates beyond "this is bad, why are they talking about twitter/instagram/facebook, i am old" etc. Which can't be the real reason because those songs in particular are like, a 7" worth of songs lol

"Vincent" is one of the year's best songs.

Vincent is literally the only reason I listened to the album. That is such a strong single, and I was delighted to find out the album version is like twice as long haha. So good.

 

I can't stand the first two Modern Baseball records but Holy Ghost really surprised me and changed my perception of the band. It's in my top ten of the year so far.

 

I've listened to Holy Ghost twice and I can't quite find anything that makes it stand out for me, kinda just.... exists and doesn't excite me

 

American Football LP2. Everything about it is already better than Brand New LP5.

Teaser --> album announcement --> new single --> pre order, all in the span of like 7 days. Beautiful. Also a nice surprise I never thought I'd get to follow up one of my favorite albums of all time.

This Brand New thing has just had too many fluctuations in probability for me to maintain caring about it consistently.

 

I wish more bands did this. No one knew it was coming

 

Lyrics would be a big part of why I don't like them, but I just don't find their songwriting very strong in general. It sounds like they they've just slapped some power chords together most of the time, and there never seems to be much patience in their songwriting. The vocals don't really appeal to me either, not just his vocal tone but also the fact that the delivery rarely changes.

I'm not trying to shit on a band you like, but you said no one articulates it, and to be completely honest I just find them to be very similar to a great many other bands in that indie-punk realm. The same issues I have are probably the same as many other people. Don't really hate them, but don't find them very standout and therefore, don't understand the hype.
