Watched Super 8 again last night, lots of similarities to this as well. And dammit how did they studio let that movie get released with all those lens flares? So distracting, even moreso after multiple viewings.

Mike and Nancy were both bland. They fit the stereotype well.

Nancy wasn't bland. She was a great friend and knew what her morals were and wasn't about to compromise them just for the new group of friends her best friend started hanging out with.

I mean, depends on how you look at it. She kind of pressured Barb into coming to a party that she prrrrobably knew she was going to be very uncomfortable at. But I guess it could be argued that was her being a good friend and trying to keep her included no matter who she was hanging with.
I kind see where Nancy was coming from in the sense that, it's always a little strange when your circle of friends starts changing at that age, and the weird transition where you bring your old friends to be with your new friends can always be awkward. Especially when they don't mesh.

The best thing about Nancy is that she (as far as I can remember) is really her own person. There's no moment of her choosing permanent sides with anyone. She never really pretends to like Steve's friends and always shows sympathy toward Jonathan. She doesn't shy away from the popular kids like Barb wants her to. She defends her relationship with Steve when Jonathan tries to call it superficial. She's aware of her identity in a way that leads to her making decisions that go against a lot of the tropes of that era of film

    Plus she's a badass

I liked barb cause I was the killjoy of my friends. I didn't drink or party and there was that weird transition where my friends started doing that and I didn't wanna be the drag so I stayed behind and they seemed like they had this whole part of themselves I never knew or saw and I kinda felt a distance. But I never pulled the "this isn't you!" Thing cause idk people change and grow up and that's normal

finished this last night after being hesitant from the hype

liked it a lot it was like Super 8 but in reference to more horror movies I actually like.

Speaking of that I feel like with all the more upfront homages to horror movies (the aliens vibe of the last ep, the posters for evil dead and the thing, poltergeist) they should have done some for the movies they took a lot of the basis for the plot from imo

The isolation tank/lsd experiments is very reminiscent of Altered States and the whole El character seems a lot like the girl in Beyond The Black Rainbow (which is seems like it might be too obscure but the scene at the end was nearly identical to a scene from that movie so idk)

I'm a big fan of alternate dimensions stuff, and this was a really fun take on that whole concept.

Refreshing that it wasn't just an alien, or something they created in a lab, or some mythical beast awoken or something like that. And we still don't even know what's going on because no one really figured out exactly what that thing was.

One of the suggested searches for Steve Stranger Things is Jean Ralphio right after his name. Guess I'm not the only one to notice the similarity. That link is aces though, thanks.

Yup by far my favorite thing is the attentiveness to actual science regarding parallel universes and multi dimensions.

Nah she bails on her best friend in a really mean way to hook up with the popular guy because typical eighties suburban girl as Jonathan correctly calls her out on. That entire party was her not being herself to impress Steve and his idiotic friends.

    Not cool. Not bad ass.

In a really mean way? What? She tries to be as polite as possible while Barb is overtly judgmental about it.

She's a lot like Lindsay from Freaks & Geeks. Of course there's peer pressure involved, because there always is (including from Barb), but that doesn't mean she's "not being herself." She's very aware of what she's doing and she doesn't regret it, nor should she.

  23. I mean she wasn't as nice to barb as she maybe could've been but there's only so much you can expect from a high schooler in that situation. "Barb maybe you should just go" was a little mean but at least she didn't embarrass her or make her stay or whatever

I think it seems much more mean knowing that she gets killed like right after

Nancy had some fun, she didn't do anything wrong, RIP Barb
