  1. I mean it goes all the way back to alternative comedy in the 90s. I love Mr. Show, grew up a David Cross fan, but stuff from folks like him and Sarah Silverman was totally accepted and even praised at the time. Obviously doesn't make it right.

I mean, hell, look at Cum Town and half of leftist twitter right now lol

I was a fan of Beach Slang but this is awful behavior from James. Ugh, I hope Charlie is doing okay.

I came across that post on my fb account and immediately unliked the artist page.

  6. The abusive fucking chode has deleted the band account on Twitter rather than say anything so I assume they are defunct effective immediately. Good riddance.

MeToo isn't even relevant to him. He seems to be a giant prick, sure, but being a giant prick isn't illegal. He wasn't accused of any form of sexual misconduct or any physical assault, and the person calling him out isn't even a romantic partner of his, but the band's manager. So he was an absolute douche towards his own manager... that's it??? That's all this uproar and outrage is about? Simply being an ass towards his manager. Without doing anything illegal/physical.

Do note that I am no way shape or form a Beach Slang fan, because their music has always been limp Replacements retreads that have only gotten worse as time goes on.

“Constant emotional psychological abuse” resulting in suicidal thoughts, therapy and medication but okay. I don’t think he was just an impatient dick about his coffee order.

Aside from the fact that your opinion on the music is irrelevant when talking about accountability, we aren't going to go down this path of victim blaming. Nope, not happening.

He was clearly emotionally abusive towards his manager. Her relationship towards him is irrelevant, it does not change the fact that she was abused by him.

Yeah, I see an emotionally immature narcissist with an ego problem and a tendency to berate those around him in order to get off on insulting someone else. I'm also not victim blaming: if she wants to talk about how much a douchebag he is, she should. What I don't like is the greater reception to it treating him like he assaulted someone. He was an asshole with his words. That's it.

Again, Beach Slang suck musically so I don't care what happens to this guy specifically. I just do not like this being the precedent in case a musician I do like (male or female, gender is irrelevant) gets accused of just being a narcissistic asshole, without assault or sexual misconduct, and then suddenly the social value of their music is eroded for no good reason.

This dude pops up like once a month with these awful posts constantly and somehow isn’t banned

I am in the Beach Slang Facebook fan group (which is now not a group for them as everyone supports Charlie and is moving on from the band), and I wanted to share this as well. Sure, they never had a relationship (which as I said above means nothing here), but he sure was controlling about her being in a relationship. Truly disgusting behavior.

If you don't care about what happens to him or his music (which again, is irrelevant here so stop bringing it up), why are you here arguing that he is not an abuser?

What a terrible fucking take. Imagine claiming to not be victim blaming, yet completely invalidating the victim’s experience because you think you know better than they do.

Somehow I'm unsurprised James from Beach Slang turned out to be an asshole. Over time he started to come off as being so full of himself - maybe it was those newsletters full of self-indulgent ramblings trying to pass as a poor-man's Pete Wentz.

I used to be really into that band but slowly drifted away. Turns out to be for the better.
