I love Elephant Parade but honestly it just doesn't fit well anywhere. If I did put it on there it would stick out like crazy and still probably be my least favourite. I just don't like Runnin' much at all apart from the middle section. I get super bored of the end and the first part has some awkward melodies/lines. When I was listening to the standard album I hardly ever made it to Heartache because of Runnin' and Prodigal.

I don't think Man works that well as a second song. I think it's a perfect centrepiece. Also I could see Empty House into Marigold with the intro but otherwise it's super jarring tonally. I think Empty House into Flower into Heartache is maybe the best three song run you can make with these songs in terms of flow. Also think you're crazy cutting God.

Why? What part? You don't think Elephant Parade would stick out on my version of the album? Or do you just really like Runnin'? Ha. I think that would be my least favourite on the whole album if it weren't for the middle section.

I think Runnin' is easily one of the best songs on here! It's such a jam. I don't think Elephants sticks out at all either, it's smooth and just a bit quirky but not too much

The lines "I rarely feel alive unless I'm running for my life" and especially "but I got the cure but I'm not so sure that I got the cure" bother me, haha. The melodies and lyrics just feel clunky to me. Then the ending is just way too repetitive for me and I don't like what's going on much in the first place so when it happens over and over it becomes a chore to sit through. I wish that mid-section had been used somewhere else.

Elephant Parade just comes in with those huge horns and feels very big and explosive compared to everything else on my tracklist which is a much more subdued and relaxed album. I'd put it as an iTunes exclusive bonus track.

"Runnin'" might be one of their best songs for me. I love the way it's built. So good!

I can't rearrange a track list to an album. If the whole thing isn't cohesive and solid, I just stop spinning it and move on.

Vinyl track listing saved the album for me. Flows much better, and album feels like The Alchemy Index from Thrice.

This is up there with FANSD for me.

Yeah to each their own but creating my own tracklisting is something I would never even consider

I only do it for albums like this where I think the original is something I will listen to significantly less if I don't. Plus if I shorten it I can fit two albums on one CD in my car. :)

I like rearranging and cutting. If it helps you enjoy a version of the album more, why not?

I had this really long and pretentious write up in this box about how I observe the art of film and the cohesiveness of an album, but decided that it was just too pretentious.

I'm glad people are loving this album in their own ways, even if it means making their own cuts. Such a great set of songs here.

We can probably all agree that Matt's lyricism is one of the reasons we love Relient K so much. Lines like "And I'm sweeping up the seconds that tick off the clock / And saving them for later when I'm too ticked to talk" from "Bite My Tongue" are just incredibly clever/smart writing.

With that said, what are some of your favorite lyrics from this album?

I really want to know the lyrics to Empty House if they exist.

    Fight the long defeat.

Not to change the subject, but the one album I consistently listen to out of order is Folie a Deux. Some of the original sequencing is just bad.

Big fan of the vinyl order of Air for Free here as well. I've abandoned the original listing at this point.

The melody, instrumentals, general sound, etc. of Empty House are fantastic but the lyrics make no sense for the most part, haha. That's not surprising though, since Thiessen appearently freestyled it.

What a Catch, Donnie not being the last track on that album is such a weird decision.
