The beans shit was dumb as hell. It was an idiot neckbeard over exaggerating (or even fully making up) a story on twitter. I would not go so far as to say he shouldn’t be a parent because of it, lol.

but fuck em for the other shit. Inexcusable, super dumb that Ken Jennings is defending him. Smell ya later, dork!

The fact that he doubled down on it makes me think it wasn't quite an over exaggeration however humorly he tried to write the thread, and could very well be a warning sign of how that kid is gonna feel about him as they grow up.

And then he just absolutely trounced himself with all this other shit

Yeah the fact that he kept doubling down was what prompted me to say that. If he was just over exaggerating for the story or somewhat joking even he wouldn’t have kept doubling down.

The man was not *abusing* his child by trying to do some moronic Teachable Moment lmao

Perhaps you’re right, but I was also going off of what folks on Twitter were saying.

His account was deleted before I read any doubling down. He’s a piece of shit, no doubt. I’m just saying that I think the negative attention brought on by his dumb story (which would have mortified me to begin with if I were his kid and read it/the replies) and his racist, anti-Semitic Tweets is far more harmful than whatever happened with his bean story, lol

I think there’s a far cry between doing something moronic and being abusive. He was clearly trying to help his daughter learn, and my guess would be that he didn’t actually have much experience in doing that and instead just decided on the fly that he could probably do it easily, and instead it diverged into them wasting hours of their time lol. It requires a whole mess of inferences to read what he wrote and conclude that he was in any way trying to abuse/psychologically manipulate/etc his daughter.

I think this is much more accurate:

I mean if you're getting multiple people (taking the word of Twitter accounts of course) who have experienced various means of abuse going "hey this could be a warning sign of some things" maybe don't just completely brush it off? It could very well be nothing but at the very least if this is how he approaches most situations with the kid I don't think it would be surprising to have some resentment build up over the years.

I'm definitely in the camp of this incident not making him an abusive father, but the process of scaffolding is completely lost on him, and maybe after letting them give it a try for a bit, you give them a bit more help while allowing them a sufficient level of autonomy. Probably shouldn't opt for teachable moments if you're a shitty teacher!

There is a huge gap between saying “this type of behavior can cause resentment” and “this is abuse and he should not be a father”. It’s horrible that people felt triggered by this dumb asshole’s stupid story. I also have no doubt that if this story (the blowback, at least) lingers by the time his kid grows up and can access the internet, it will almost definitely be harmful.

It isn’t completely brushing it off to say that I disagree and explain why I disagree

This is the kind of mess of inferences that I’m talking about. You say “at the very least” but even with that you have to add an “if” because you simply do not know and have no way of knowing. You have a single Twitter thread that he himself clearly thought was humorous or cute or something. I also resent many things my parents did but that doesn’t make them abusive

I do have to agree with the above that my statement of saying he shouldn’t be a father is too much. I was making a quick judgement on my first reaction to the story and upon further reading feel while it may border on abuse or abusive tendencies, there’s not enough there (at all) to say he’s not fit to be a father (based on that story alone).

oh if this is all based on thinking I agreed with "he shouldn't be a parent", then that is my bad. I don't agree with that, but I think being open to recognizing it could be a potential warning sign based on what multiple people who have experienced abuse have said is good to do too. I'm not trying to crucify the guy based on him being potentially abusive, that goes on all the anti semetic racist shit he spouts.

    Hey. Supporter

I agree this has abusive tendencies and may cause some emotional turmoil for the child later in life, I’m more concerned that this parent is taking extreme pleasure in making fun of his child on the internet for the world to see and reveling in the child not knowing how to do something.

This reminds me of why I hate those YouTube family vloggers who share every aspect of their kid’s lives without their consent or them having any understanding of what’s happening.

I'm sorry, but how is neglecting to feed your daughter *not* abuse? Especially when hunger directly affects someone's ability to use their brain? It's a crucial thing to function and live
