I love small coast towns but because of the fish, aesthetic, and sadness, not cause I can swim.

I pay $530 a month and just have to pay electric for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment about 10 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. I’m about to move into my friends 3 bedroom 1.5 bath house for $500 a month plus utilities and a nice big yard. I’m very pumped.

I've lived 10 minutes from the beach my whole life. Love it and can't imagine ever moving away from the ocean. When I get my own place I definitely would say I wouldn't move anymore that's more than an hour max away from the beach. That's a deal breaker

My only complaint would be the fact that just a few miles NW of me is getting pounded with snow while I'm stuck with rain thanks to the warm air from the ocean >:-(

my rent for a 2 bedroom 2 bath at about 1200 square feet was 1500 a month. our house, which we've been in since September, is 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bath at 2200 square feet for about 2100 a month.

the investment is already paying for itself. in the year since we signed on the house, the base price for getting into our neighborhood has already gone up 50k. in the next year, a new food hall, a stop on the light rail, and multiple restaurant/bar/shopping areas will be popping up within a mile radius. it's only gonna keep going up.

3 bed/2.5 bath townhome in Charlotte area here... mortgage is under $900, but that doesn’t include utilities and HOA...

also any home owners should probably pad on $150/mo. to savings for incidental costs and big things need replacement every few years.

This is the one thing I'm scared about buying a house. We are so over dealing with landlords and neighbors through the wall and plan to look into realtors later in the year, but things like unexpected repairs and investing in things like laundry machines, snowblowers, lawn mowers, and their upkeep.. things that come baked into rent become a major expense haha

  15. Definitely pros and cons to both. At the end of the day owning gives you an asset to sell and you add value over time.

On this topic... owning makes more sense than renting long term from a financial standpoint (generalization and doesn’t apply to all housing markets) for most people. However, from a society/macroeconomic perspective, having house prices exceed wage growth long term seems like it will only cause issues. I’m not an economist, so idk how much truth there is to that.

I enjoy renting where I don’t have to deal with paying to fix certain appliances, plumbing, infestations, outdoor maintenance
