I’ve lived in LA and Chicago but am currently looking for a place back in metro Detroit and its really nice because places that are “expensive” are way bigger and nicer than just about every other apartment I’ve ever had.

What cheap ass housing markets do yall live in where 1600 isn't a good mortgage payment? haha. And that was with the absolute minimum down payment too. so PMI adds like $130 per month to that for now, should come off in about 5-7 years I think

3 bed 2 bath, (with additional living room) 1800 sq ft for $800/month. Front and back yard, and a landlord that leaves us alone unless we need anything. It’s hard to want to ever buy a house when we love this place so much.

    downside: Wisconsin.

1700 for my 750 sqft 1br apartment and it's subsidized, doesn't include heat or electric. My place before this was 450 sqft and was basically the same price lol. If I wanted to find cheaper I could probably rent a basement apartment or something but I prefer a complex.

renting 2 bed 1 bath for 900 a month plus utilities. lined up to buy a 3 bed 2 bath house next year for around 300k. mortgage will probably end up being around 1100 a month.

The first time home buyers program in CO is a scam too, they let you get away with only putting like 1% down to qualify but it's like... your payments are fucking massive then lol

1600 for a mortgage is very decent, especially if you’re in any sort of high population city

I was looking in metro Detroit and it was like 11-1200 for something like what you were describing. Same here in the Akron/Cleveland area. Anything around Philadelphia is going to be pricey compared to where I’ve lived though.

Basically just move to anywhere Democrats routinely turn their nose up and get a cheap mortgage.

lmao j/k....but no seriously I live in the Boston-DC corridor so I feel pretty good with a $1600 mortgage. I'd feel pretty confident saying that's probably on the lower end of the bell curve for average mortgage in that corridor.

The place I live itself isn't super exciting but we got the small city with a decent bar scene in Wilmington near by, a bunch of hiking trails/woods/open space out in the Brandywine River valley, 30 minutes from Philly, and 2.5 hours or less drive time from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, the Delaware beaches, the Jersey Shore/Atlantic City, and New York City. It's a pretty decent location, to say the least. Couldn't imagine living inland so far away from the ocean. Maybe I could do a mountainous state in the rockies because the national parks out there are awesome....but even then I'd really miss the ocean and beaches and the charm of east coast cities. Not that I disliked Denver or San Fran or LA or etc...but def just had a different vibe and feeling (and layout, to say the least) than the old colonial cities out here.

Oh yeah dont move where I am now lol. Im here because of random happenstances plus the pandemic haha. But I'll be in Athens in a month, and that's dope.

Yeah I'm not big on the ocean so that's where you lose me haha. I just go and look at water so the Great Lakes are good enough for me.

God I love the ocean haha. We havent been able to go to the beach the last two summers for various reasons now and it's killing us. My wife grew up in what she calls a beach town (but we have different definitions of what a beach town are due to her being from Long Island lol) and I'm pretty sure that will be the first trip we take this summer if we're vaccinated.

I'm like a 15 minute drive to the beach and enjoy sitting in the sand, but the actual oceans in NH (or ME where I like to go) are like 55 to 65 degrees in the summer so I never understood the appeal here. I'd rather swim in a lake for sure.
