That's got a bit of extra spice because QPR have stopped doing the pre-match kneel after they felt that it had become meaningless (the club do a lot in the community wrt to race issues and in how they hire at the club).

Yeah, I had heard that they had stopped doing the kneel, I think someone here, maybe you? Mentioned why they had changed the name of their ground, seems like QPR has their shit together

Looks like Micah Richards is getting it in the ear on Twitter for not immediately labelling the the fourth official last night as a racist, as he doesn't know the context of the word in Romanian.

At the weekend he had all the anti-BML clowns on his case for calling Millwall racist. His twitter mentions are a fascinating mess right now.

Not even a shitty “United are backing Ole” article today?

Honestly, their best shot of getting back into the CL is the win the Europa imo so it isnt that bad

  7. Whoever loses this Atletico/Salzburg match will just be another strong team going down to Europa.

Real Madrid appear to be getting the job done so far tonight. It's a shame as I'd quite like Gladbach to go through.

Whilst his foul throws are annoying, it is getting beyond a joke when he does a perfectly legal throw and is still called on it, whilst others get away with MUCH worse.

Ah good timing. Except we’re not on an upward trajectory and we cannot mount a title challenge

it may be a weird season but we do need some realism here

I haven’t seen the incident in question here but foul throw is definitely the most inconsistent rule in football. Almost every game I watch these days have 5 missed foul throws. Thought it was a rule that had been scrapped tbh.

Really? I see a foul throw every now and then but 5 times in every game?

I already had the feeling yesterday that this was basically the Cavani situation all over again.

People really need to learn that words in other languages have different meanings and just because a foreign word sounds like a bad word in your language does not mean it has the same connotation.

I think the 4th ref definitely should have used a different wording there. But I know that in the heat of the moment you do not always think about it too much. And it was pretty obviously not racist at all.

It's really a shame because in the end it's a lose-lose for everyone involved. There are so many issues with racism in Europe and they have to be called out. But such an uncalled overreaction does more harm than good in the end.

Yes. It’s very common in the championship. Particularly when teams are pinned in their own half or wanting to keep the ball in the corner late on in a game.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I think, regardless of the word used (and I have seem something suggesting that the Romanian word wasn't as innocent as was originally reported, but unsure if it's real), singling out someone based on their race in that context to describe them looks bad and is pretty dehumanising. Like, if I had to explain to a new person at work how to find someone in the office, I wouldn't give them directions and then use race as a descriptor. I'm not going to say "Go to the end of the office, turn right and look for the black guy."

With that in mind, I think the players had every right to do what they did and I think in terms of respecting people, it's not an acceptable way to talk about someone, particularly when you're in a position of authority as the officials are.

What I found strange was that Richards got put on blast so badly for having an opinion which wasn't extreme enough. He said he respected what Ba did and it was his right to call the official out. He then said he personally wouldn't be offended by it and that he wouldn't call the fourth official racist because he doesn't know enough about the Romanian word, nor how it was delivered to referee. He did say he thought it was at least ignorant.

In response, twitter exploded in a tirade of calling him a dancing monkey and some other pretty nasty slurs I won't repeat here. It's baffling.

Another player with Ole links than we were linked to for ages without even trying to get them before they move to a bigger team :-)
