Feels like that is exactly his plan. Reduce the troops because on the surface it looks good for him, but he knows that it is just making the situation more dangerous over there for us and our allies and in the long run may cause problems for Biden

i too remember seeing the map and wondering why Asheville doesn’t have more pull there. Isn’t it basically a hippie commune? Lol. How is that district so red?

NC is gonna be picking up a seat in 2022, gonna be interesting to see how the map is redrawn and if that district is one that becomes more purple

  5. I'm starting to fear just going to the grocery store, which is about the only place I actually go to these days.

Fuck that's scary. Worries me for the times I do laundry in my mom's house once a month, but it still seems safer to be around 1 or 2 people than the alternative of going to a busy laundromat :-/.

Historically there are many precedents tho. Hitler and Himmler were quite respectful towards Muslims, some of them from Bosnia even serving in the Waffen-SS towards the end of the war.

Do I have reason to be optimistic about student debt cancellation, or is it more likely Biden will do the bare minimum?

Full cancellation, no, but it's sounding like some relief for only government loans could be a possibility. But still won't hold my breath

I had to break my "haven't set foot inside a store since March" streak about 3 weeks ago to go into a Wallgreens to get my wife's prescription.

Curbside pickup all the way. I feel for rural folks and maybe some city folks who don't have that option, but between Target and Shoprite around here, I can either get free curbside pickup OR a small fee for curbside pickup without having to force another person (ie an instacart person) into the store. What sucks is Shoprite does timeslots and back in April/May you basically needed to sign up a week ahead of time to get one. And Target doens't do curbside for perishables, so...

I wouldn’t even be very optimistic about the bare minimum but it’s clearly being kicked around so there is reason enough to support it by doing whatever you can do as far as signing petitions, calling congress people and asking them to support it when it’s in the public or the news or whatever, and to tell bootlickers, especially liberal ones that resist cancellation, to go right ahead and fuck off.

I refinanced to get my rate down. I'm hoping so badly that I still qualify.

They've started to finally for their Super Target stores

What really annoys me about Target is you still can't get any kind of disinfectant through Drive Up, only in store purchase. You can get toilet paper for Drive Up now, so I know they can easily keep track of inventory, and worst case scenario if it is in fact out of stock when you buy it online just say so..

As a historian I would really love to ask a covid denier this:

There have been multiple pandemics throughout history, right? I think they would agree. Then my follow up would be: So, why exactly should this pandemic be the one to be all fake? What makes you think that it HAS to be so different this time? And do u rly think historians in a 100 years time will say: pandemics happened in this year, in this one and in this one, but the 2020 was fake.

Probably wouldnt convince anyone, but i would still be interested. But I have a strict rule about not talking to any fucking covid deniers.

I just don’t understand the logic of “forgiving student debt is politically difficult.”

Literally every voter’s life would either remain the exact same or get better. It can be done without congress. I can’t imagine a Democratic voter who’d defect over this decision, even if their default opinion is, “nah, don’t do it.” And, I could see some people who aren’t deeply partisan or politically plugged in having warmer feelings about Democrats after having that monthly payment eradicated.

Like, outside of it being the right thing to do... Even if a lot of people, if asked personally, would have a mixed to negative opinion on the topic... What case is there for it being electorally negative, instead of either positive or neutral?

the COVID assholes I come across recognize that it’s real - they just feel that “wearing a mask tramples on their rights and that not enough people have died for them to worry about it”

wont do any good. historical revisionism is pretty big w that crowd. nothing new, the history and poly sci studies have been smeared as liberal indoctrination by these types in america for a long time now.

the effects on banks and lenders + the effects on interest rates = politically risky

these are important macro economic concepts

It’s existential. If you forgive people’s student loans, it creates the perception that the government can be a useful, helpful tool of the people. The past 40 years have been an effort to cut that perception out of American life.
