I’m pretty confident in saying that Jesus wouldn’t encourage you to risk your life to attend church for a pagan holiday.

Aren’t all the Hanson bros problematic?

  6. "But the aggrieved fans stress that they don't actually want to see Hanson cancelled in any way, and instead are hoping for accountability and acknowledgement that their pain matters."

I think the loss of this point (in general, not just in this case) is my least favorite thing about the "cancel culture" discourse. So much of what all of this is about is supposed to be about accountability and healing, not about destruction. And it gets lost because people are deliberately disingenuous to avoid accountability (and some folks absolutely co-opt the movement just to get some licks in, but in my estimation that's a much less important issue since they didn't create the mess, even if they're not helping).

Octavian, the British/French rapper based in London, who won the BBC Sound of 2019 list, has his debut album coming out tomorrow.

He is currently trending in the UK because it turns out he is a violent abuser and his team are all complicit. Rumours the label may drop him the day before the album drops.

    Here's a thread:

And here is the brave woman herself, massive trigger warning on these posts so be careful

Wow I’d never heard of him until his recent Gorillaz feature. Hope his label drops him. That should be a career ender.

  11. I long for the day when survivors of DV no longer feel the need to say "I never thought I'd be the kind of person who'd fall victim to this".

Not judging them for doing it, I've said similar things. I understand where that discourse comes from. It's just so damn wrong the way we (as a society) culturally perpetuate that idea.

Massive weed + deep recesses of the internet will do that to someone. I know because it’s happening to one of my old college buddies. It’s sad and it sucks that people find themselves in these holes where they’ll believe literally anything.

Idk man I smoke a lot of weed and even at my highest, I would not be able to get through a flat earth conspiracy theory without busting out laughing. Marijuana usage does not have a long term impact on critical thinking skills. The education system in the US does not cultivate critical thinking and it looks like Stephen Carpenter, like many Americans, never developed that skill on his own time. Imma still listen to Deftones though

That’s a valid situation of separating art from the artist. People can have stupid fucking beliefs all they want if they’re not in regards to human rights. It doesn’t make them a bad person, it just makes them gullible. Ima always listen to Deftones

Right on. I didn’t mean to insinuate that smoking marijuana makes you dumb because that is simply not true. However, I’ve found that it makes some folks more susceptible to influence with things that are “mind blowing, brooooooo”. Like “ever see a $20 bill... ON WEED?!” That’s what Steph is doing and it’s highly laughable.
