Ya, San Diego just fell back into the purple tier (The most restrictive tier). All restaurants, bars w/o food, gyms, and places of worship have to close if they can't provide outdoor services. Also, retail/grocery stores are only allowed a certain percentage of capacity.

Yep, it’s bad. I don’t know how I come out of this unscathed. My husband is still working because we don’t have a choice. He has a coworker out now because members of his household have it (& he has leukemia). A patient I took to the ER a few weeks ago for unrelated issues caught it in the hospital and died. She was 102.

My job right now is supposed to be systematic legal work around the environment, public health, and housing. Instead I’m just doing eviction hearings because it’s so needed right now. Defending evictions should not be an “essential worker” because evictions are not only not essential, when they occur they actively raise the risk of spreading virus and disease. It’s fucking ridiculous we can’t even do the bare minimum.

  5. That sucks... My wife is a middle school teacher so she's been going to work every day. Fortunately it's a really small private school outside of the larger cities here, but still. Not ideal.

And then I do tech support, so I've been able to work from home every day. I've been working from home since April. My company just announced that they'll give us a 90-day heads up when it's safe enough and they decide to move us back into our actual office downtown. But yeah, there's definitely no end in sight, so I think I'll be WFH until at least the summer, if I had to guess.

I think if Trump hadn't been so anti-masks/COVID, his faithful followers wouldn't have been such assholes about it, and maybe we wouldn't have such high numbers across the country. Maybe. But who knows, I guess.

Yikes! I think this is where Ohio is heading unfortunately. I don’t think people are going to suddenly listen to the governor’s strong urging to take personal responsibility and do the right thing.

1000%. It would make a huge difference in my life. It'd be especially life changing if he could do it for private loans, but doubtful on that one

Numbers aren't as bad compared to other states, but NH just confirmed 300 new cases on a single day which is the highest it's been so far

Yeah, it's bad. We're planning to head to my in-laws in middle-of-nowhere NC for Thanksgiving and staying through Christmas. They're retired and the only interactions they have with people are masked at the grocery store. So after we get our grocery shopping done, likely quarantining for the next ~2 weeks, hopefully getting a test right before we leave, and then driving down on Thanksgiving day.

Pritzker keeps threatening a shutdown if things don't change and it only seems like they're getting worse.

We've been mostly following a stay-at-home lifestyle since March, though our kids did go back to school 3-days a week in September. But it's a small class (10 kids, 1 teacher) and they're outside (and masked) a good chunk of the day and inside (and masked) for the rest.

    nah.

called a friend an idiot for acting like there wasn't a pandemic and now she's at home, sick and positive. tried justifying going to a friend's party by saying they didn't tell her they were sick. reminded her there was a pandemic still going. she mad now.

So I’ve been thinking about this and I was wondering—-would it be a big boost in the short term right now with all federal loans seemingly put on pause at the moment? In normal times it’d be extremely stimulative but if people are already saving that monthly payment by not paying their loans at the moment, will it have an immediate spending impact? Or would the benefits suddenly be more long term?

  20. isn't it wild??? my guess is a huge chunk of that is from those college kids that were at the huge halloween party in saratoga springs.

All the major hospitals in West Michigan are nearing capacity. I heard today they are training pediatric nurses how to do COVID care because they anticipate everyone else in the hospital getting sick. I'm starting to get really scared.

Our district has decided to increase the number of days kids are in school to five days a week, effective the day after Thanksgiving break. They've also gutted all of our prep time.

Really looking forward to my leave ending in less than three weeks!

So many students at my sister's school are choosing full-time remote and she literally has to go in to in-person teach a class of 2 students right now. What a great plan

my sister asked if we could come to MO for Christmas. I laughed at her on FaceTime. First of all, dialysis won’t let me travel unless it’s an emergency. Second, how bout no?

I’m glad you guys are doing it as safely as you can.

  25. Last week, I think Utah said our hospitals were at 78% capacity. It's gotta be much closer now that we just got this ~4k jump today.
