Machine Gun Kelly - Tickets To My Downfall (September 25, 2020) Album • Page 25

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by AlwaysEvolving21, Jul 27, 2020.

  1. She knew as she once tweeted her disappointment in response to a fan mentioning the Jesse allegations. I don't know if the tweet still exists, but I remember seeing it posted on her latest album thread. It felt weird to still decide to sample them afterwards.

I'll just delete this thing cause I wanted to have a discussion instead of elicit a little rally here.

There are a million other artists Halsey could have sampled and it still baffles me to this day that she chose Brand New. When you have a platform you should be using it for good not to highlight abusers in any way.

I think the notion that everyone has done something fucked up is wrong. There are tons of artists out there who use their platform for good and haven’t made fucked up tweets like MGK (or done worse). The notion that everyone has done or said something bad at one point is an odd one when so many musicians have not said or done fucked up shit in the past.

It's also more so the doubling down and being adamant there's nothing wrong with it. I'd give some leeway to a 19 year old thinking that and learning from it but he's like 30 now and still thinks that's fine. Not okay.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Genuine question - where has he doubled down on his tweets from age 19 now at age 30? I have not seen that.

It was an old article actually. Still, 25 at the time of doubling down on it.

Thanks. I didn’t know about the article either.

    It is wrong? Yes
    Illegal? Yeah
    Criminal? Very much
Pedophile? Maybe not? But still very much maybe?

    we’re in the clear boys!

  12. Tweeting disgusting comments when you’re a fully grown 19 year old adult is wrong. Doubling down on the comments in your mid-20s just makes you look 10x worse rather than owning up and saying you fucked up (which wouldn’t make it any better regardless.) Not to mention he had a line about it in his diss towards Eminem who was obviously gonna take offense.

  13. Imagine coming in here and saying you still listen to Pinegrove with your whole chest.

On topic, dude's comments sucked, he had a chance to own up to his shitty behaviour but he doubled down. Fuck him.

The doubling down with the victim card in that interview when he was 25 is what got me. Even if he has learned his lesson, it was another 5 years before the tweets surfaced again. You had plenty of time to scrub that nonsense off your timeline. Also why I’ve soured on Travis Barker the past few years too. The me against the world attitude when you are a multi, multimillionaire is impossible to sympathize with.

There are a ton of artists who could really use the support (especially during these times) instead of a weird creep like MGK whose career likely won’t be affected by this at all.

It’s so disgusting when people use the excuse that rockstars from the 60s/70s or whenever were dating underage people so it’s okay now. It was gross and wrong then and it is gross and wrong now. The whole “rockstar” mentality that a lot of those musicians embodied (in terms of their relationships with individuals below a certain age) is so repulsive when you look up stories and that mentality needs to stay in the 60s/70s and never come back.

  22. Jerry Lee Lewis was HUGE back in the day and he was 23 when he married his 13 year old cousin. What's the big deal???

It was weird as hell then and is weird as hell now, as you said.

Jerry Lee Lewis played Riot Fest a couple years ago when I went and I watched a little bit of his set just to see him and thinking about that while watching him made me so turned off from watching for long.

  24. I bet... Totally makes sense.

I can't believe he and his cousin were actually married for 10 years. I read a short interview with the cousin, and she said that they thought people would stop talking about their marriage after a few months, or a year, but obviously no one ever stopped talking about it, even now.

Holy shit. I'll be honest and say I was willing to give a bit of a pass on those tweets from along time ago, but he is just reaffirming there that he wasn't just joking or being immature. Fuck that shit.
