David Ornstein: “It’s my understanding that the damage to Virgil van Dijk’s right knee is perhaps worse than initially expected and extends beyond the ACL.”

The potential issues for VVD's career are huge. He's almost 30, if the injury is worst case scenario he might not be back playing regularly for well over a year.

Szoboszlai just scored a beautiful goal but other than that he's not been at his best tonight. I know lots of clubs are after him.

Speaking of FM. I’ve hated him ever since I signed him for the bulk of my summer transfer fund and he was fucking shit

Shaktar were missing TEN players due to COVID and still won in Madrid? :eyes:

What on earth was Vinicius doing for that goal?

We’ve just conceded a very bizarre goal that started off with a referee asking for a throw to be retaken because one of our defenders slipped whilst it was being taken.

Porto have been robbed here. Appalling refereeing.

City looking like absolute shit. Ederson suddenly can't pass from the back and Cancelo looking like a lost boy on their goal.

I figured we would have some issues without De Bruyne (any team would) but man its been bad, bad without him.

Bayern are so ruthlessly clinical. It's for them to lose this season imo.

    hmmm

0-1 ahead with a very fortuitous Tagliafico own goal.

Not playing well at all. It's very easy for Ajax to get into the final third - not a surprise when we're so compromised in midfield (Fabinho covering at CB, Henderson on the bench, Thiago, Keita and Oxlade Chamberlain out).

Kyle Walker being our best defender this season says all anyone needs to know about the state of our backline. Not keeping Angelino seems beyond stupid at this point as we are seeing how it goes playing Cancelo at LB. Having no overlap when Sterling makes his inside cutting runs is very evident.

Definitely in favor of a type of "eye-for-an-eye" punishments for excessively reckless challenges like Pickford's. Even if Pickford had been given a red card or a short game ban, it is nothing in comparison for VVD to miss the rest of the season or potentially struggle to stay fit for the rest of his career. VVD out for the rest of the season? Pickford should be forced out for a lengthy period of time as well. Richarlison's challenge could have caused a pretty devastating injury as well and, in my opinion, would have warranted him missing out for much longer than what he'll get.

It's a damn shame there is no real disincentive for players who are prone to such horrible decision-making or recklessness.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

This doesn't work in cases where a player gets horribly injured from what is a fairly innocuous challenge though. We've seen the mess that football authorities make with anything subjective. A rule already exists for the sort of nonsense Pickford pulled out, they just didn't use it.

Much better game management in the second half. Felt relatively comfortable by the end; Ajax didn't get going when they needed to. In the circumstances, that's an excellent result.

What is the point of Sky showing championship games with none London clubs in them? The game finished 2-1 and we got 25 minutes post match of how great Brentford were and then 30 seconds of Wednesday coverage. Commentary throughout the games constantly spoke as if we should be inferior to them and they clearly didn’t know half our players names. Dismal coverage.

I've seen the eye for an eye thing mentioned before and people were saying in that case Van Dijk wouldn't have been playing the derby anyway as he'd still be out suspended for a challenge he'd made on someone last year (I wanna say it was maybe Longstaff from Newcastle or something?).

I totally get your frustration, but you can’t force a player to sit on the sidelines because he made one poor decision. It’s incredibly unlucky for VVD and Liverpool, but like you say, Pickford made a poor decision, there was no malice.

As an Arsenal fan, I’ve watched the careers of Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Jack Wilshere and at one point Aaron Ramsey all come to a halt due to injuries caused by bad tackles. It really sucks to see a talented player suffer something like this, but I firmly believe if the tackle is a simple mistake and not malicious, the other player should face no more than a small 2/3 game ban.

Going to say that Darwin Nunez is a name to watch going forward. FM Legend for me in my current save and just had a hat trick for Benfica during their Europa League match.

Are there two Viniciuses now? That's bound to get confusing.
