Well I’m two episodes in and can’t say I agree at all. Maybe I’m just easily scared Idk. Thought there were two or three very creepy moments in both episodes. But empty dark houses with people randomly appearing on camera always freaks me out.

Not sure this belongs in the Horror thread, but Nightmare Before Christmas is on and it led me down a youtube rabbit hole to this video...

Like, holy shit! She sounds exactly the same as she did in the movie, and this is like 25 years later.

Spontaneous blew me the fuck away. Somehow both a perfect satire of the "John Green genre" while also maybe the best example of it.

Also, soundtrack includes Wolf Parade, Julien Baker, and Sufjan. Fuck yeah dude.

The glut of Netflix shows and movies is really incredible. They are just blasting out content to offset so much other stuff being pulled for new streaming services.

Even if those viewing numbers were close to true, it feels more and more that people are watching these things with half of their attention devoted elsewhere. People would not pay for tickets to go see them.

A lot of the Departed is a lot less subtle than his other work. It almost feels like a different director.

parts of the irishman veer into scorsese paint by numbers territory, as well, but there’s also long stretches with much more care in that film than the departed.

Idk know me watching a 90min Netflix comedy about Sherlock Holme's sister is more likely than me going to the cinema and watch something like Endgame. I'm clearly not the only one. Maybe the online discourse just isn't as close to reality as it likes to think.

The person who traveled to a theater and paid money is much more likely to share in their experience than someone watching a Netflix show while they scroll through their phone and do laundry.

In many ways, Netflix is becoming what television mostly was before the "prestige era". Content for its own sake, meant to justify continuing membership dues, much in the same way television shows are primarily about selling advertising space.

To the consumer, a Netflix movie is "free" compared to a theater experience, and thus there is less of a need to feel like you received value from watching it.
